Playing in first tournament - anything I should know?

I tried searching but with no luck.

In a couple of weeks I'll be playing in a member-guest tournament with my father-in-law at his country club. I've been playing for two seasons now and have tried to learn and play by the rules.

Is there anything different about playing in a tournament?

Other than the fact that you are consciously aware of playing in your first tournament - meaning some first tee jitters - there is no difference. My first tourney was a couple of weeks ago, and when I had a question about the rules (it was a relief question), I simply asked, “What’s the ruling on this?”

Nothing you need to know other than to relax and have fun. Congrats, you will love tourny playing. If you have any questions, just ask away, someone will help.

Drink a beer on the range before you tee off to settle your nerves and try to make as many birdies as possible. Good luck!

I'm just throwing out thoughts here, I don't play in any real tournements.
I don't know how strict they will be or how much you know about the rules,... but I'd say here's few you might not think of,...
Don't touch the green when indicating an intended line of a putt or break,...
Don't give a putt or don't take one if someone trys to give you one. (unless it's match play)
Don't ask what club someone hit.
Don't walk in anyone's line. (not a penalty, but you'll here about it)
Watch the ball all the way, especially when it's going near trouble so you can mark the point of entry into a hazard.

If you don't know ask, ask, ask,......

Its simple stroke play.. but I think it's best ball of two. Outside of that just relax. 99% of the cases there's nothing to worry about.

You should never walk in someones line, ask what they think you should hit, etc. Don't ground your club in a hazard, and of course ask if you have an issue. Relax and have fun, puhlease!

Cool, sounds straightforward, should be fun...of course since golf isn't my job that's really the whole point.

This is a prime networking opportunity, as well as a golf educational one. If you're in school or working, you may be able to make some contacts - you never know...

Just have fun, enjoy the atmosphere, and try work on the social aspect along the way (try to network more after the round at the 19th hole, if it seems like a worthwhile thing to do).

      Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.

      I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.

      Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
