I was just curious if most people line their left thumb up exactly with the center marks on the grip? I really hadn't paid close attention to it and noticed at the range I was gripping it just right of the marks leaving my club more closed. I have been doing it for a bit as it seemed awkward when I lined it up.

If you keep the left edge of the thumb touching the mark I think you are fine. My preference is to feel the palms square to the target, then angle them in toward each other on top of the grip but the left thumb is just barely to the right side of top.

I do but then I always know that the grips on my clubs are in a perfectly neutral position and that's how I grip the club. It's something you can check with your instructor, get him or her to put your hands on the club in the position they want you to be in and then compare that to the way the grips are aligned on your clubs, maybe they need to be put on weaker or stronger than they are or perhaps they were put on weaker or stronger for the previous owners if the clubs are secondhand.

What I'm saying is, if you don't know what you are doing go to your instructor or clubfitter for personalised advice.

And how come the old Golf Pride Victory aren't as popular as they used to be? If you follow the pattern on the grips providing the grips are put on the clubs correctly for you there is no way known you can make a mistake.

Harvey Penick does a good job addressing this in his Little Red Book. He suggests that the thumb should not be straight at address, but a little to the right. It feels weird at address for some, but the key feel is not at address, but at the top of the backswing.

My swing seems to "groove" better when my left thumb feels like it is supporting the club at the top of the backswing. The club therefore feels more solid and in control.

The point where this feels right is different for every golfer, but I would experiment and not worry about how the club feels at address, but rather how it feels at the top of the backswing.

No, my left thumb is to the right of the marks otherwise my left hand is too weak.
