Anthony Kim's caddy - Eric Larson

Stumbled across this article just now and figured I'd like to share it with you all. Apparently Eric Larson, Anthony Kim's current caddy, was in prison for 11 years prior to taking AK's bag for cocaine distribution. A pretty neat story :)

Distribution is far worse than simple possession and use. That's why sentences for distribution are longer than mere possession, rightly so.

My 2 cents, not that anyone asked: This isn't a guy who just fell on hard times. He wasn't an addict, fueled by chemical dependency. He capitalized on others' addictions purely to line his pockets. I recognize that he was probably pretty young and stupid when made these choices, that the State has taken its pound of flesh and that he's all square on his debt to society, and I'm also honestly glad that he has done so well since his release. It's good to have loyal friends, and props to AK for giving him the chance. But I have a hard time seeing this particular felon-makes-good story as all that inspirational.

But I have a hard time seeing this particular felon-makes-good story as all that inspirational.

While I agree that its not an inspirational story in the sense that its an experience everyone should go through to become a better person (obviously), I will say that people will do rash things and make bad decisions when times are tough - esp. when one is in bad bad debt.

Still - good to see he mans up to his past, paid his debt to society, and is back on the bag!

its costs 100,000$ a year to incarcerate someone and 20,000 a year for college

Yeah, well at least someone isn't pushing drugs to your kids while they're locked up - But then you see the Government as a drug pusher, don't you?You said it in the other thread. All those nasty drugs to combat high blood pressure and arthritis, asthma and cancer.

Are you suggesting that they put drug dealers at the college doorstep and save themselves $20,000?

LoL, ya, I'd feel much better about our GVMT if all the streets were paved, stamps cost 20 cents, and I had free health care as long as the trade off was serial killers, rapists, and child molestors were in college with our girlfriends, brothers, and sisters.

One the otherside, if that were true, my dad woulda told me at 18 to steal cars and park them at the police station or hold up a donut shop so he coulda bought that vacation home 20 years ago.

Yeah - think of the savings! And not only that, the US could regain some international respect and those 50 million a year morons who lent money to unemployed people who wanted to buy houses without a deposit wouldn't need that 750 billion or whatever it is they're trying to negotiate with your government. Just release all those good citizens from prison and multiply the number by 80 thousand and there you have it! Simple!! A substantial fiscal bottom line.

I mean, the idea that you could actually MAKE money by doing away with the concept of punishment is a piece of beauty. Gangagolfer for president. He could team up with that Alaskan woman and their combined wisdom would do wonders for your economy and moral standing.

ditto, for our correctional institutions to be a real money saver should be about rehabilitation and healing and not a revolving door for felons. if we could turn people's lives around, this is the solution

drug dealing is a career of hopelessness, give people hope and a vision and people and society will flourish

Drug pushers have chosen their career and without users there are no pushers. We make choices. Their choice is to try to make money without working. They are not motivated by "hope and vision", unfortunately. They hope to make a quick buck and cannot see nor do they care about the damage they cause. These diseases are not all caused by poor diet and lack of exercise. Try legislating exercise and diet in your country and see what happens. Again, choice. Ironically, legalising illicit drugs is the only way to put drug pushers out of business. Without the (albeit greedy) drug companies, I, along with many people on this site would be dead or unable to play golf. How do you "give people hope and purpose"? There are millions of Americans who have unlimited hope and great purpose. They are not waiting for someone to give them anything. The fact that a drug pusher will be replaced by another is no reason not to lock them up. And I am not "inspired" by the tale of a reformed drug dealer. I am, though, willing to accept the fact that he has reformed and turned his life around. I respect and admire that. Were he not incarcerated, where would he be now?

Dang, what are they eating lobster everynight in NY. As of 2004 the cost of incarcerating a Californian for 1 year was 31,000.

ny is closer to 30,000 as well. 100,000 i quoted in error.
