Disclaimer: This is not a bragging post, I just am very happy about what I did and thought I would share my accomplishments with my friends at the Sand Trap.

In the month of September I have won the Alaska Junior State Amateur by 11 strokes, was runner up in the A flight (one behind Championship for the Men's State Amateur, and was runner up at the Alaska State Match Play.

Now realize that the best amateur golfer in Alaska is just barely on the plus side for handicap, but I mean still I feel very happy about doing what I did as a 15 year old.

Next up, drop my handicap below 4.4 to play in the Pub Links Qualifier next year.

Here's what I play:

Titleist 907 D2 10.5* UST ProForce V2 76-S | Titleist 906F4 18.5* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist 585H 21* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist ZB 4-PW TTDG S300 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 54.10 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 60.08 | Scotty Cameron Red X5 33" |

Congratulations dude.

Thanks, yeah it really is, and considering I started May '07 I am very proud of my progress and hope it keeps going. And congrats to your December last year (that's my birthday month

)
nice job, wow your handicap made a huge jump.

Yeah it really did, I have been working with a swing coach since the beginning of las winter, and my swing is finally coming around, now I just need to work on my putting (who doesn't?

) and then my game will get that much father.
what is the pub links?

The Pub-Links is basically the US Amateur, except you only have to be below a 4.4 index (2.8 for the AM) and you cannot be receiving discounted golf and such unless you get it from employment at a course. Basically you cannot belong to a county club or have a membership at a course if you want to play the Pub-Links.

Here's what I play:

Titleist 907 D2 10.5* UST ProForce V2 76-S | Titleist 906F4 18.5* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist 585H 21* Aldila VS Proto "By You" 80-S | Titleist ZB 4-PW TTDG S300 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 54.10 | Bob Vokey Spin Milled Oil Can 60.08 | Scotty Cameron Red X5 33" |

I really don't understand how people have such huge jumps like that. The most my handicap has gone up or even down is about .4 maybe.

I have never gone down a full stroke.

Correct, I beleive he mentioned that it just recently went up because he is working with a new swing?

You know dude, some of us suddendly pick some tip up/swing though and here we go. When my hadicap was a 23, I shot 13 over and got it down to 19. Then, when my hcp was 16, I played on a course where it sloped to 19 and shot 9 over. Dropped to 13, and on the next 2/3 tournament shot well enough to get my handicap down to 11. Now it has taken me almost a full year to get to a 7 hcp.I have to start next year in about a 7/6 tops. I must be a scratch golfer by my birthday (sep 18th). I know a hand full of guys who did it, so I guess that it isn't that hard... You just have to work your butt off...

That wouldn't be too good. I shot 154 +10 (78, 76), with one round being at my home course, and the other being at a course in another town. and the next person shot a combined 165.

Great job is your handicap still 7.8?

It just went to 7.8 after the last update

. But my putting has improved greatly since I have been doing the Phil Mickleson circle drill for hours on end and I expect it to come down before the end of the season.

No I injured my shoulder and have had trouble swinging a club for about 2 weeks.

How wouldn't it be too good? I was 4 over the whole day then bogeyed the last 2 holes. It was the same as one of your scores and only 2 strokes worse than your other. I could've gone 76 easy I just let the pressure to win get to me.

That is some solid play! Congrats!

The OP mentioned that he has not been playing very long (< 2 years) with lots of practice. It is easier for someone who has just started playing to have big changes in his/her handicap then someone who has been playing for 10 years. Plus I think age is important. I am in my 30s and have been playing since High School (with a major break during Graduate School). My Handicap barley moves. I started the season at a 13.7 and my trend is a 13.6 so I moved 0.1 all summer :(

Keep up the good play AND THE PRACTICE!!!

Sorry, I didn't mean that to come across negative. I just meant that was too bad you only lost by one shot, and you played bad. Although it is good that you almost won and you played poorly. I'm sorry that came across as negative, I should have said congrats about getting second though, my apologies.

Thanks, I'm going to Oregon next week to play, and I'm going to play a few tournaments over the winter, so we will see how that goes.
