Are Titleist Pro V-1's worth the price?

I hear so many good things about the Titleist Pro V1 and want to know if you think they're worth the $45 or so they cost. I'm a beginner, but I don't lose many balls because I hit fairly softly and straight. Also, am I safe buying V1's from Ebay, or are there counterfeit V1's?

if your index is truly a 36 then i say, NO they are not worth it. You can get great balls for much less. that said, I know a lot of high handicappers who play them for the cool factor and they 'think' it makes a difference.

I personally like the feel of the pro-v off the iron and putter face. They are also good around the greens. I've tried almost every ball out there and always come back to Titleist.

That really is only something you can decide. I play ProV1x and think they are definitely worth it. I can tell a pretty big difference between them and a cheap ball (especially around the greens). But, I'll guarantee you that I can play just as well with a cheaper ball.

If you like how they feel and can afford to play them (and lose them) go for it. You don't lose many now becuase you don't hit it real far, but as your skills progress you'll likely add distance and just like all other beginners you're bound to hit it all over the place and lose some balls.

One thing to definitely not do is just play them becuase the pros play them or someone you know told you to play them. Just tried some different balls and see what feels the best to you. The scorecard doesn't care what ball you used.

Are they worth the price? Absolutely

The real question, however, is "Are they the right ball for you?".
Just buy a sleeve of them to try out, if you like them and they're good for your game, then you'll have your answer.

As a relative beginner, you won't get the benefit of the ProV1. Way too many golfers play balls that aren't right for them simply because of the 'cool' factor or because others play them. Try a ball like the Titleist NXT Extreme, or the Callaway HX Hot for a high quality ball at a decent price.

Until I really started shooting mid-low 80's consistently I never really thought they were worth it. Even now, I don't think they are the ball for me and I prefer the NXT Tour. Not as spinny, but still have that great feel.

Do you recommend these two models for a hi-handicapper/beginner? I like bot of these and they are much more price friendly for someone who loses alot (like me) but am wondering if there is some benefit in these 2 over others

The NXT Extreme is a firm ball that will go very long. Great ball, but I can't play with it around the greens. Depending on what you are looking for, I'd go with the NXT Extreme or Bridgestone e6 or NXT Tour.

check lostgolfballs.com and grab a couple dozen AAA ProV1's and try em out... it will only cost about 30 to get 2 dozen (shipped) and they play just as well as new ones for mid/high cappers.

I really like the pro V1's... A little squirrley off the driver if you dont hit it well (a big slice/hook can turn into a huge one) but around the greens they are amazing. Its inspires a lot of confidence knowing you can stop the ball on a dime on a green instead of hitting it short and hoping it stops somewhere in the vicinity of the hole.

A cheaper ball I really like is the bridgestone E5+... played one I found for the last 3 rounds untill chunking it into a pond last night rushing to beat the darkness.

Pro V1's are definitely worth the price but if your handicap is what's shown, I would say no at this point.

Like Andy_Mac said, they are a bit squirrely off the driver if you don't hit it right. I play Pro V1's when money allows but my frequent gamer is the Bridgestone E5+ and E6+. These are great balls and I think you would like them.

The E5+ is a high spin 2 piece ball and I get great distance off the tee and good spin on the greens. The E6+ is somewhat lower spinning 3 piece ball I believe. To me, they play the same and you'd probably benefit from them. They're also $24.99 a dozen which is a lot cheaper.

The Pro V1 is worth it, IF you can take advantage of it with excellent shot-making. If not, it's like putting high-octane gas in a moped. There are PLENTY of guys who pay for Pro V1 balls and are wasting their money. I know it, because when I am rooting around looking for my Top Flite Gamer, I find *plenty* of 1-hit Pro V1 and Pro V1X balls. I find at least two every round.

Great ball but clearly depends on your game. Sometimes spins too much for me. I like Bridgestone's full line, the B330s are great and the e5 and e6.

I play the ProV1x and they are worth the price imo. It just really hurts if you ever shank one in the water or woods!!!!

I've been playing three balls during this month to final decide whether or not the ProV1 is the ball for me. The other two balls are the NXT Extreme and the Bridgestone B330. While not the most scientific, double blind study, I finally can say that I'll play ProVs when I find them! I"ve got better things to spend my money on.

I've never had a PV1 last 18 holes. Both the NXT-E and the B330 have lasted entire rounds and give me a consistent feel off of all the clubs - putter included. The PV1 is more lively off the tee and therefore I don't feel that I'm "in control" as I feel with the NXT-E and the B330. While it's a good ball, it's not a ball I have a feel for. I bought the NXTs and my son recommended the B330s. He used them playing Div 1 college golf. It was their practice ball. The team has the option of using PV1s in tournaments. He thought is was a better ball for my style and Hcp. I'm stocking up on both balls. Hope this helps.

depends on your swing speed to get the benefits with these balls. the most popular ball on the senior pga tour is the mc lady and to simplify the marketing, they've taken the same "mc lady" ball and labeled it the "mc laddie"... the best ball for someone is about swing speed

If your handicap is 30+, the most important ball decision you can make is based on price. You should probably play bargain balls. I happen to LOVE Precept Laddie and Top Flite D2.

For somebody of that level, probably the only boost you'll get from a Pro-V1 is confidence. And it's very easy to measure. Buy a sleeve of Pro-V1s (usually 12 bucks or so at the clubhouse) and play your round with them. If you shoot better, by all means, keep playing them. But, chances are once a few of the Titleists get lost, you'll realize that 12 bucks could have bought you an entire box of Noodles, Slazengers, TopFlites, or Precepts.
