hey all, i have a senior flex, 13 degree, sumo driver. my question to you is this:
should i keep the driver head, get the driver reshafted (reg or stiff), or should i sell this and get something with a lower loft? i hit it fairly well until i got it regripped and extended an inch. i dont hit it to bad now, but it dosent feel the same. so i am looking for a new driver, but i am curious if i should just get this one reshafted or is the 13 degree taking to much off. i think i should get a stiffer shaft because i can still hit this thing 260+ but when i hit it bad it feel like the club dosent catch up to my swing. let me know what ya think

Well my first question is, if you were hitting it so well why did you extend the shaft? By doing this you in effect fooled around with the swing-weight, the flex of the shaft to some degree (maybe slightly softer) and the kick-point that you were used to. To top it off it's a senior shaft and if you really hit it to 260 on the carry (assuming this since you don't get much role if any from a 13*) sounds like your swing speed would be better fitted to a new shaft. Which one? I don't know, you should get fitted for one. Having said all that I noted the TM Burner in your sig at 10.5*, what made you switch from this to the Nike at 13* or if you had the Nike first what prevents you from using it?

i dont have the taylormade burner anymore, it was just a head any ways, traded it for a putter to a buddy. i really didnt mean to get a inch added, i went in to get it regriped, and the guy was asking me y a senior and yada yada, and he measured it and told me that it was an inch shorter than most drivers. so after measuring me he thought it would be best to add an inch, so we did. he did say that it would change some things and also that it was an e5 and it should be a d5 or something. to be honest i didnt understand and made an impulse buy, i regret it now.

Those are some pretty long drives for a senior flex haha

but alas, getting fitted is the only answer anyone can give you, whats your swingspeed? how do you load the shaft?

i get alot of front spin with this club, i think i was able to time the flex of the shaft with my swing to get a nice shot produced. I have quite the few 280-310 yarders also, just now with the inch extended its not as consistent. i guess i could get it redone right? but i guess i would rather have a normal driver anyways. i might see what i can trade this one in for and get a new driver. i am going to talk to my buddy about the tm burner head also...

If you are hitting the ball 260-300, which is very hard to believe and I doubt it. A senior flex is a bad shaft for you. You should be hitting with a stiff flex, at least with the kind of carry you are talking about.

dont you have to have like a 105 something swing speed to even come close to 300 yards?

regardless, it seems to me that if you really are hitting 300 yards, your shaft is playing a whole lot stiffer than it says on the lable, like if i swung a senior flex shaft, i definetly couldnt hit it my usual 280..

i didnt say i hit it 300 everytime, i said i usally hit it 240-260 on average. yes, i have a few 300's with this driver, but i dont happend often. the longest drive i know i hit was a 320 yard drive, i landed it in the bunker just to the right of the green, about 2 yards below the pin. maybe the wind plays a factor with a little higher ball flight with the 13 degrees, i dont know, not what im debating. i want to know what you guys would do, would there be a point to re-shaft a 13 degree head, or should i go with a whole new setup with a new driver? thanks...........

also, i get alot of roll with this driver also, my drives have good topspin. i can take a video of my swing and post it, if that will help you believe, but thats not the point im trying to make. i play at a windier course so that may help, but still, i hit the ball and it goes 240-260 on a regular, 300 on a very good shot. i just want to know what a 13 degree head will do on a regular or stiff shaft? is that a waste of money, or if i get a lower kick point shaft, will it give my drives a nice trajectory?

I play a 12.5 deg driver on a stiff shaft and it works great for me. I have a lot of lag in my swing, and get a negative angle of attack, so I can't get a low lofted driver up in the air. My SS is about 103, my distances are comparable to yours. I also have the same head on a senior flex shaft. I have the same problem with it that you describe. For me it was cheaper to buy a new driver ($50) than get mine reshafted, so I bought one with a stock stiff and now have a spare to experiment with.

edit: Here is the driver I play. http://www.sportsauthority.com/produ...entPage=family

i can keep this driver nice and low if i want too, i just prefer a higher shot, its not sky high, just a bit higher than average. if the wind is in my face i can setup for a lower shot, so the 13 degree dosent bother me, its just the inconsistent with this whippy shaft. i think i am going to get fitted with a lower trajectory shaft and keep the sumo head on the end, i think they would balance out well and also keep me from having to swing not as hard do to me being afraid the head wont catch up with the shaft. thanks for the info.

Have a Fuji Vista Pro put in there. Regular flex. It's tip stiff and will play about the same as most OEM's stiff shafts. You should be able to get it installed for around $60-$80.

hey all, i have a senior flex, 13 degree, sumo driver. my question to you is this:

Extending one inch made it what 47 inches? If you can swing that long a stick I guess your distances are possible. But, as stated when you lengthened the club the shaft plays softer. Throw it out and try something new, with all the new fall models coming out. But get fitted, you can probably go with less loft and more stiffness.

its just contradictory information.. Having a high ball flight but having alot of roll doesnt exactly make sence3 in my mind, of to hit it high you need the spin to get it up there, so your ball shouldnt roll to far, but you also state that you hit the ball low, so maybe im just confused, or reading it wrong.

Seems to me you already know what to do tho, if your banging out 300 yard drives sometiems and playing a senior flex, well you definetly need to get either a regular or a stiff..how far do you hit say 3 wood, 6 iron, pw?

I play a 12* G5 with a 44" UST Proforce V2 in stiff flex. I love this setup. I am in the low 90s in swing speed (90-95) and definately hit with a downward attack. I am a borderline stiff flex and play regulars in all of my other clubs. But in my driver I have more control, feel and feedback with a stiff. Now those harder swings don't baloon and the weaker bunts get up enough to get out there. This setup may not be ideal for me on a perfect shot, but the range of my shots (both good and bad) are within distances and trajectories I can deal with.

    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
