i have a superstroke grip, and it doesn't fit in my carry bag. so i have to strap this retarded holster onto my bag and it has just cause frustration. it screws up the balance of the bag and it tips over and its awkward to carry. Anyways, i am in the market for a customized staff bag. i am looking for maybe a ping or a nike bag that i can have embroidered with my name on it. anyplace to look? any reasons why not to.

The way I see it, pros have their names embroidered on their bags, amateurs do not.

Amateurs playing at an international level might have a discreet flag of their country stitched to their bag. This might be an example of the difference between Australians and Americans, but if you paid me $10,000 to play with a bag with my name embroidered on it, I wouldn't take it because the riducule and embarrassment I'd suffer would not be worth it.

Wow, I must be a tool then. When I had to special order my Ping hoofer I got a call from the shop where I ordered it and they let me know that Ping could put my name on the left shoulder strap for free so I went for it. The responses I've gotten have been positive, none negative.

Anyway, call up Ping, I'm sure they can help you out.

Like I said - it's one of those cultural things!

I remember someone saying once - and I don't agree with it, but I know what he means - that in the US, if someone drives past in a Porsche people stand back and applaud, but here they'll run a 20c piece along the side of it! (if it's parked). We tend to be a little more understated here. If someone wants their name on their bag, great. All I was saying was that in this country it's a different mindset. I understand also that people in the US have bumper stickers saying things like "Proud mother of a grade A student driving" and suchlike.

If you know it's a cultural thing then why even bring up the fact that you think they are tacky? I'm sure there is a more appropriate place to voice your distaste of American culture while you comfortably leave the location under your avatar blank.

He asked for points for and against. That's why.

My location is Australia as I've frequently mentioned in my posts. I'm not sure why that is no longer under my avatar. Are you suggesting that the only people whose opinions matter are those of golfers in the US? I do not have a "distaste" for American culture at all. I have a serious distaste for a lot of personal characteristics of people form all nations especially when it comes to ostentation (golf related)and displays of wealth in locations where many people are not similarly advantaged. (not golf related) BUT - this is not saying that people can't do as they choose. And I am ALSO not saying that having your name on a bag strap is ostentatious. Could even be quite useful. Having a pro style bag with your name embroidered in large letters (which is what I should have made clear I was thinking of) would make you a laughing stock in any golf club I've played at in this country. I am just stating that - I'm not trying to modify your thoughts on the idea. Anyway - aren't I on your "ignore" list?

Hmmm, so your own name is bad but spending countless dollars to have "CALLAWAY" or "Nike" emblazoned all over your clubs and bag is cool. You couldn't be paid to have your own name but you'd pay to have someone else's. I'm a firm believer that labels should be worn on the inside, which is why my golf shirts are all logoless (is that a word) and I'm happy to carry a vintage Blackwatch tartan bag, my club covers are dark green (no cobra for me, thank you very much)

Anyway, those are my two cents, or two pennies as I'm originally from England but now live in NYC. I will admit having a customised bag does sound cool, may be when I get good enough I'll get one.

I've got my name on the spine pocket of my Titleist X-86 bag, I get lots of compliments, plus I've been on the news for winning junior tournaments in Anchorage so people always come up to me an ask about me, it makes me feel famous

I hope that most people in this world have grown beyond the immaturity of caring about what others think they should do with the money that have have earned. Spend it in a way that makes you happy, who cares if some loon, whether they be in the driving range stall next to you or down under cares about. I know I would not be where I am in my life if I stopped to consider what my peers thought about every move I made, especially regarding something as silly as a darn golf club bag.

Who is this addressed to? If it is me you have made a very peculiar assumption. When did I say that I want to have brand names plastered all over my gear? If I was paid to advertise I would, but as I am not I choose to use a bag and clothes without logos. I also did not say that your own name was "bad". Sorry if I missed a post where someone said that they spend countless dollars having Callaway or Nike brand names on their gear. I certainly don't think it is cool for an amateur to pay to promote huge companies' equipment. But.....if that's what others like, good luck to them.

PLEASE put me on your ignore list as you promised to do. You seem to care inordinately about things which are just being thrown around as discussion points. Obviously, we don't agree, but in case you didn't get it, I was merely pointing out what I can assure you, is a very real cultural difference between our two fine nations. It is not a personal attack. I'm not even saying that I think "we" are right. To each his/her own. I don't care what you wear or buy.

Everyone needs to get off their high horse. Nothing he said was making fun of the kid or the US. He's just saying it's different in his country. I agree with him. I think having your name on the side would be goofy and I would never accept a bag with my name plastered on it. I think you'd have to have a very big ego, and that's something I don't care for.

That was a suggestion by Iascas, I never mentioned anything of the sort, you are in error here. Furthermore if you wish to discuss this please do it via PM as it has NOTHING to do with the OP, is distracting and bad for forum morale.

You seem to care inordinately about things which are just being thrown around as discussion points. Obviously, we don't agree, but in case you didn't get it, I was merely pointing out what I can assure you, is a very real cultural difference between our two fine nations.

The difference in culture has nothing to do with the OP's original question. In other words off topic..

It is not a personal attack.

No it's a cultural attack, in other words it's bigoted.

I'm not even saying that I think "we" are right. To each his/her own. I don't care what you wear or buy.

Then it won't surprise you that I advise you to keep your mouth shut next time. "Don't tread on me." -USA. The OP did not ask about cultural differences, he didn't ask if you thought it was stupid, he asked who would do it for him and where he could get it done, so just drop it and grow up.

In answer to the original question, Club Glove, makes excellent bags and they will embroider your name or initials on the bag. By the way, its fine to put your name on the bag, the way Club Glove does it as a personal thing different from a pro bag with a big name on the back where you really might look silly if you could not play if you had the "pro like" name on your bag. But, if Callaway or Titleist wants to put me on their staff, I am on with all the clubs and the great big staff bag with my name on it. Might help my game, sure could not hurt it.

Hey, as long as you don't get a bag thats embroidered with AIG, Lehman Brothers, Wachovia, Bear Stearns etc - LOL - I don't thing that anyone really cares what's on the side of the bag. Boy. this is like the Ryder Cup except without the clubs. Who knew we would be fighting about accessories

Now can we all play nice in the bunkers and sand traps.
