Ping Karsten Series Putters

Don't "ping" like the old Ansers do. Pisses me off. Why doesn't Ping put the slot in the putters anymore? Also, the Karsten Series, as opposed to the original Ansers, are much heavier. After having tried many putters, the original Anser is still the best putter I've used. The Karsten Series putters are nothing like the old ones.

I bought a new Karsten Series Anser a few months ago after I found out that my old Anser is actually fairly rare. I liked the new model. True it doesn't sound the same, but I assumed that was more because the new series are made of stainless whereas the originals are made of bronze. I didn't notice much of a weight difference, but I whatever difference in weight there is didn't affect my putting. When I bought my current driver I traded in some clubs and the Karsten Anser I'd bought. I just felt better using my old Anser. Incidentally I got the same trade in value on the Karsten Anser ($50) as what I'd bought it fo (not counting shipping) on Ebay.

To me the two putters putted about the same. I've used a borrowed Cameron one round that was essentially an Anser and I didn't notice much of a difference there either.

You're "pissed off" that a manufacturer developed and sold a new line of putters?

I quite like the dull thud that the Karsten putters make, i'm not fond of "loud" putters, especially when u have to whack the ball (on slow greens here!)

They're nice simple putters.

I suppose it's all a matter of opinion, but it bugs me that the only similarity between the Karsten Series and the old one is, to me, the shape. I was sorta hoping that the Karsten Series would be lighter, but oh well.

I've got a Karsten CRAZ-E that I use on slower greens that treats me well. My best all around PING is a G5i Pal that has been a solid performer. The first putter I bought was the PING Sedona i and putted with it for years. I just get a little wristy with it, kind of a "Palmer" pop if you know what I mean, and have to watch for that. Still my favorite... jmoc

I don't think that the Karsten line is supposed to be a reincarnation of the older Answer putters, so I don't really see where the anger is coming from? And if you loved the "ping" of the old Ansers then why don't you just get one of those, I'm sure if you find one on eBay it will be just as inexpensive or less expensive then the Karsten line.

And if you loved the "ping" of the old Ansers then why don't you just get one of those, I'm sure if you find one on eBay it will be just as inexpensive or less expensive then the Karsten line.

Or just order it from PING. They still offer a ton of their older putters for sale.

And for the record, I think the Karsten line is fantastic, especially for the price.

I like the new Karsten series, feel like the Beryllium Copper ones in the past, a bit heavier which is great for faster greens.
I think they had done a great job and able to keep the price point reasonable.

Can't really complain about the price. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a good putter. I was just expecting/hoping for it to be a very similar putter and was somewhat disappointed.

I've tried it, but I don't have $250 to spend on a putter, and I don't really want to either. It IS a pretty nice putter, though.

      I'll be honest, the only reason the 2 iron was in my bag is because I tend to hit the ball into the tree's fairly often. And I was using it to help me keep the ball very low to get out of the tree's while avoiding getting much loft to hit branches. I guess I can drop the 3H as well. Would it be wise to give a higher loft fairway wood a try as well, something like a 26 degree? I believe there is only one golf shop where I live that has a golf simulator and trainer. I see they offer free fitting with a purchase from the fitter. I'll have to check how much they charge without a purchase, I've read a few stories about fitters on this forum that just wanted to sell the person the most expensive clubs and that kind of deters me a bit. They do offer lessons as well. I'll give them a call and ask them a bit more about these services. Thank you!

      Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.

      I would not do anything until I met with an instructor and got your swing looked at. There are some obvious better club options out there though. Spend 50 bucks on a lesson, practice and start piecing together a bag that works for you. Enjoy the journey.
