Ha, yeah, comparing guys with multiple tour wins who duked it out in the U.S. open to a bunch of handicappers... That's real cute.
And Rocco's
average driving distance is not 289.6, it's 266.9.
Get a GPS, measure your drives, average them, and prepare to be humbled. I can hit them out there nearly 300 yards, but I can't with a straight face claim it as my
average. My drives may go 300, they may be mishits that go 220. My
average drive is around 265.

I play a high kick, very heavy True Temper EI-70 shaft cut to an X flex. It weighs about 100 grams, which does kill some swing speed. It's 45" long, but I'd like to cut it down to 44.5". I have a 9.5° driver, yes, but I use it to add some forgiveness. My launch angle with this is 17°. I would play an 8° driver, but it seems almost foolish to risk it. Tiger plays a 10.5, so why shouldn't I play a 9.5? But even I know, that with the lightest, longest, easiest to hit driver on the face of the earth, I can't hit it 310+ on average. I'm a realist, I've measured a lot of drives, and I have several friends who are or were tour players, and to see them hit a driver is really amazing. I have a friend who is an amateur, but one of the best ballstrikers I've ever met (nearly scratch with absolutely no short game). He swings his driver about 100 mph, but he can still outdrive me. Why? Because he hits the center of the clubface every time. That's requires a very good swing, really good. Even he only averages maybe 270. Most people measure their longest drives, and file it away as an average. They quickly forget about their mishits.
