I have a 9 x 7 net that works well, but the nylon netting looks to me like it will eventually break and I will hit a ball through it. I have neighbors directly behind the net and dont want to put a ball through a window. I want to put some material in front of the actual netting, to take the brunt of the hit and to slow the wear and tear on the actual net. It needs to be about 7-8 feet long and about 4 feet wide. Any suggestions? Should I just get some more heavier duty netting and double it up?

thanks

Anything you hang in front of the netting will slow the ball sufficiently to prevent rapid wear of the net. You could double the netting, or hang any kind of material directly in front of it. Even a sheet/blanket would do the job.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. Exactly what type of material would be best? You really think just a sheet would work? I could hang a piece of material about 4 x 4' where I hit 99% of the balls. I doesn't have to be as large as I initially stated.

A cloth tarp would be perfect. You may get a bit of a "pop" when the balls hit it, but it will take wear on the net out of the equation.

No good. I want to hit at night and my neighbors won't appreciate loud pops!

get a block of foam or use an old crappy pillow. they'd both be pretty quiet on impact.

i have a driving range set up behind my barn. a combination of a rug and moving blankets. its about 10 ft high and wide which allows me to stand back aways to hit shots. no neighbors near by if i miss

You could use a canvas tarp? I am not sure how it would sound but they are very durable.

I've seen somebody use an old rug to stop/ slow down the ball. It worked very well as it didn't wear down and ites very effective
