What are better?
Are hybrids for Beginners or more Advanced play?
Im deciding on what irons to choose from, but my handicap is getting lower, and my swing is getting faster, so maybe its time to step up.
Sorry, but im just so curious about all the new tecnology!

I personally like hybrids, even for a higher swing speed (not that mine if very high).

I find my 3 hybrid more consistent than my 5 iron by far.

I don't think you need to worry about being too good for any game improvement clubs until you are *at least* a 10HCP. There are Pro's that play Hybrids. A 22 HCP still has a loong way to go. Are you planning on getting rid of your Sumo for a TP driver as well?

I find that my Hybrid irons are easier to hit *and* can be worked a little bit. I hit my best score ever with them today . I golf with a buddy who is about an 8HCP. He plays blades, but after finally hitting my clubs on a few holes recently, he is tryng to talk me into buying the A4OS so he can buy my A3OS from me.

Enjoy the game!

I tend to frown on Hybrid irons if you play frequently as you can cover swing flaws, that you could easily work on. If you don't play a lot want to shoot decent scores with friends, go with hybrids, but if your a frequent player, I would say that regular ones help in the long run.

I play a 23 degree hybrid and took my 4 iron out of my bag. The hybrid is easy to hit, get up in the air and land softly on the green. I also chip just off the green with the hybrid.

I have tried lots of Hybrids but have gome to the conclusion that the longer irons just suit me better, i am far from a good golfer (15 at the moment) but i just find that i hit the irons better especially off the deck, anyone else find this? I did however keep the HALO 2i that i got super cheap from the bargain bin but i only use it off the tee.

I preffer hybrids off the deck becuase they fly long and straight but off the tee i preffer irons because you can make cleaner swing.

I find hybrids much more forgiving than long irons. My handicap came down 3 strokes this year switcihing my 3-I through 6-I to hybrids. Unless your swing is very steep hybrids will likely help your game. As others have said, don't worry about being "too good" for hybrids. Pros on every tour carry them. They can help players of all caliber.

Same for me. I've tried numerous hybrids and still prefer to hit my irons. I simply hit them better, don't know why.

Uh, go with what works best? This is golf, not Olympic diving. You get points for score, not for form.

He may have changed his mind by now - that post was almost seven years ago. :-)

I've already sold one of my hybrids and may sell the other soon as well, if you haven't tried the AP1 long irons I recommend it, they are so nice to hit.

What's your longest AP1?

Seems the OP was considering a complete set of hybrid irons e.g. 588 Altitude, a long time ago at that. Really a different thing than considering replacing a few long irons with a traditional hybrids. Not so much in a mini-fairway design as a giant iron meant to help lesser skilled golfers get the ball up and not dig into the turf.

I use a 588 Altitude gap wedge because it's really tough to mishit. Even poor strikes launch high and mostly towards the target. I tried the 588A 4-5-6 but the funky sound was tough to get past but no denying it was a forgiving club, basically a big fat soled hollow iron. I've seen low handicap golfers using mixed 588 sets. Altitude 3-5, MT 6-8 and TT 9-GW.

The hybrid set is what I thought the OP was talking about also. I have tinkered with the idea of getting a hybrid set of irons. Something like the Dynacraft Avator set I make a better, more sweeping swing with my woods and hybrid. I am more consistently on line with those.

I replaced my 2 through 6 iron with hybrids last season and at age 63 have my long and mid "iron" game back to where it was 15 years ago.  Even when I had a faster SS, my 2 iron from 200 out was a stretch and low %.  Now I regularly go for the green from 200+ and the chances of being on or just off the green are excellent.  And the 5 and 6 hybrids have me deadly from 145 - 165 yards out.  Full disclosure, I still carry my 4 iron for low running shots.
