I changed my right hand grip and it turned my slice into a slight fade. I can live with that for now. The thing is, after some range work and a round of golf my lower back is STIFF and my right elbow is sore. I wonder if I will get used to this.

i had the same problem... when i switched to the so called "power grip".

i went back to my normal grip and just taught myself to roll my wrists toward the ball prior to impact to square the clubface up... this had the same effect as changing my grip in the first place minus the back pain because i didnt have to tilt my left sholder up to compensate for the rotated grip....

Thank you. I took a lesson and the Pro was telling me to do just that. I tried it a few times and it's going to take some timing! I was duck-hooking, missing the ball, etc. I don't want to try and learn that on the course, but it will be my driving range work for the next 1,000 balls or so.

If you are tall (over say 5' 6") check your spine tilt (left / right) at address.

Most people need more right spine tilt (left hip above right hip) than they think / feel, especially with the driver. Helps take pressure off the back from the transition and followthrough. Gives you better leverage and an easier time at an inside path. Helps your pivot too!

For me, at 5' 11" it is essential. I can't hit long clubs at all without some right spine tilt. I'll be swaying and reverse pivoting all over the place!

i've had aches in every part of my body at varying times since i started golf... the first spot was my rotating cuff in my right shoulder. i have no idea what i was doing to cause that, but buddy, when i got done with a round, i could barely move my right arm at all. later on it became my left knee, where it turned out i'd torn some tendons (had to have a scope done to fix that...) still later, my lower right back took to hurting after rounds.

fortunately, for the past six months or so, i've walked away from all of my rounds relatively pain free, save for the pain of having a double bogey or three.

Its probably just because you have got so use to your old grip and so when you change it can become very uncomfortable

If you are getting lower back paint I would venture to say you are tensing up and over swinging a bit. Typical for a swing or grip change to try and "swing for the fences"
It could also just be new muscle groups getting a work out.

I switched from a 2 plain swing to a 1 plain this season and noticed some new muscles getting a work out for sure!

    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
