TT Black Gold iron shaft review.

I did a review of these shafts on golfopinions.com if anyone is interested. Bottom line is I tried them today, pulled them after range session and have them on ebay already.

TT Black Gold shaft review
Got to finally hit the TT BG X-flex shafts today. These are installed in a set of Mizuno MP-60 3-pw irons and MP-T 53* & 60* wedges. I spine aligned them and were cut to 5 iron length of 37.75", standard length for Miz. Also, Pro Soft inserts were installed to help take out unwanted vibration. Winn Excel XF copper midsize grips were the choice for this set.

First impressions were these are very tight with dispersion. Ball flight for me was quite disappointing as they are stated as low to mid flight but actually are similar to flight between a DG LIte and a Dynalite. The ball not only got up quick but just kept climbing, not ballooning but mid to high type of flight. Now for what it's worth, I had S300 in these before. I did not loose any distance but figure going from S-flex to X-flex I would. Actually gained about 4-5 yards of carry. Trying to hit knockdown shots with these would require more time to get use to than I had. Hit 2 large buckets, about 225 balls, and was worn out.

I use to play the Project X and can honestly say if you already have these then there is no reason at all to switch. The PX shafts seemed to climb quickly then level out where the BG's did not. Also, the BG's are very harsh feeling shafts (at least to me anyway even with the pro soft inserts) comparred to the PX's.

My conclusion is these are not for me. I will be going back to DG's as they feel 10 times better. BG's did not do anything spectacular that other shafts can't do equally. I do believe everyone should at least try them for themselves and don't go on my opinion only. Look for these on ebay if your interested.

Let me see if I can answer your questions.

1-I played PX-6.5 in a set of MP-32 before so I am familiar with those shafts and liked them but traded those for 670 forged. I just got the MP-60's a couple of weeks ago and all they had in stock was S-300 shafts. I was going to put in the X-100's but decided to try the Black Gold first. Of course the other 2 were stiffer and thats what I am going to be playing. I put the S-300's back in yesterday so I can play until the BG's sell and I can order my new set. 2-Can't answer that because I did not design them. My only guess would be that being a mid bend point instead of high bend point. Maybe someone else could chime in. 3-Yes the Rifles are nice. I guess even though they feel better to me that the DG's just are better suited to my style of being a hitter and aggresive move to the ball. I have tried/used/bought/sold approx.12 sets of irons and shaft combo's in the last 12 month's and am now finally settling on the MP-60's w/X-100 shafts. Once finalized I will purchase another set for a backup to match my primary set. Hope this helps you to have a better understanding. Like I said before, everyone should give them a try. Just because they didn't work for me doesn't mean they aren't for you. Mike

project x rifle shafts - how much are they going for these days and which model is the one thats not too stiff?

PX shafts are approx. $220 3-pw. Noticed you are playing DG-S300 so if you want to stay close to flex I would say the PX 5.5 as these shafts do play a little stiffer. The Black Golds I have in X-flex for sale would be the same as PX 6.0-6.5. If you were to go with the Tour Fighted Rifle's then I would say 6.0 flex. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike, this really helps a lot. So what you're sayin gis that the PX 5.5 will play slightly stiffer than my DGS300, if not the same?

The DG S-300's are pretty close to the PX 5.5. If you want them a little softer then soft step them,3 iron shaft in 4 iron head,etc. If you want them a little stiffer, then hard step them, 4iron shaft in 3 iron head,etc. If you need anymore help just let me know.
