Okay so tonight at the range I went in with real high expectations. I had come off of a round where I had really hit the ball well, and expected to do the same tonight, sort of as a tune up for my round tomorrow. Anyways I wound up rushing and was making some pretty poor swings. The wind was howling, and it started to rain, so that didn't help either. Now back to point, I accidently made a grip adjustment, and for what ever reason I noticed it. I have a standard interlocking grip (I'm right handed btw) and normally my right thumb either points down the middle of the shaft, or falls over to the left side. Well tonight I had my right thumb pointing down the right middle to right side of the shaft. This promoted a much more consistent ball flight with my driver. Anyone every try this? What results did you have, is this bad? Thanks for your input guys.

Assuming you are swinging right handed...

Keeping your right thumb down the middle or right middle of the shaft will limit your wrist cock. It may make it easier to feel where the shaft is during your backswing, but it is not typical of a "proper" golf grip.

I used to keep my right thumb pointing down the shaft, but I was usually two clubs shorter than my playing partners. Since then, I put my right thumb around the shaft, and it meets the side of my right index finger, gently pinching the grip in between the two fingers, with a little space separating my right index and middle fingers.

I hit the ball farther, and feel the club much better in my hands now.
