Where do you place the ball in your stance when hitting a 2 iron? I tried in the middle just like the other irons, the ball kept going right. If I hit on my left heel, the ball is too high. I'm trying to get a mid trajectory on windy condition. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ronald

When I used to use a 2 iron (and 1 iron at one point), I always played the ball just a little forward of center (slightly forward of where I played it with my 3-4 irons). My PGA Pro father used to say your hands should be able even with clubhead on 1-2 irons, unlike most of other irons where your hands are forward of head. However, a couple years ago I put those low irons aways and started playing hybrids, which are much easier to hit consistently long and accurate. I currently am playing 3, including 2H, 4H and 5H. Hybrids are often (but not always) anywhere from 1-2 clubs longer than irons with the same number on them.

you still want to hit down on the ball but not nearly as much... your ball position should maybe be a ball behind where your driver is... you can also narrow your stance slightly for a lower trajectory and keep the ball off your left heel...

I usually go just inside left heel. Seems to give a nice trajectory and I try to just pinch it off the deck; no steep angle of attack.

I apologize for not answering the question.......

......but with the availability of good hybrids, why in the heck are you even carrying a 2 iron any more?

I finally went over to the dark side last year. I swapped out the 2 and 4 irons. I still carry a 3 iron because I can flight and work it better than the hybrids so it gives me some options when I need them. My bag looks like something that belongs on the high school girls golf team with 2 hybrids, a 3 wood, and a driver, but my game from 185 yds plus has improved dramatically.

Now, if I could just putt worth a damn.......

Just a tad ahead of 3 iron ball position, but I vary the position alot since I like hitting punch shots with it. Middle of the stance gets me I guess about 10 yards high. Love to hit low shots.

hybrids? PAH - i am hoping my callaway 1 iron has arrived today - stingers here i come

You sir are a manly man! I also notice you're playing scratch (or better?). One of my favorite quotes.....I think it was Trevino. When asked about getting hit by lightening he said that in a thunderstorm he "just pulls out his one iron and holds it over his head.....'cuz even God can't hit a one iron!"

Gotta love that Trevino quote; definitely one of the best.

I have found the best technique is to try to not hit the Cypress Roots that are behind the ball, and don't swing too hard because you might hit the Cypress Roots that are in front of the ball. I have found my 2 iron is the appropriate club for hitting out of the rocks also.
