So I have these Orlimar Tri-Metals no one wants to buy. One of them is a 13* fairway wood.

One of my favorite clubs is my 6 iron. Today I'm going to cut the 13* down to the same length as my 6 iron and add weight to the head until the swing weight matches my 6. I'm hoping for a super low loft club that swings/hits close to my favorite 6 iron. The Orlimars are good out of nasty stuff so it may also help me get out of trouble and still be long..

Should be interesting. The worst it can do is cost me a few bucks for the grip and a few strokes this weekend.

Sounds pretty cool. Seems like the lie angle might be problematic, though.

Considering how many times I have to punch out from the woods I think I could use something like that. Let use know how it works.

Thanks guys.. Got it cut down at lunch.. Not too worried about the lie, but the swing weight difference is HUGE. It's a b1 now so I need to add 20 swing points to get the weight "right". It'll be covered in tape by the time I get done with it. Gack!

lol i want to hear the reaction of the club-maker, when you tell him what you want to do.

Haha! They're used to me coming in with dumb ideas that hack up clubs. This one merely got a raised eyebrow and a "good luck". I think they are just as curious as I am.

That said, the problem with having an inconsistent swing is that it's hard to quantify all my experimenting...

I love this type of unholy alchemy when it comes to clubs. I wouldn't recomend it with something of great value. But this club seems like the perfect canidate for some hackery. You may hit on something great. I'd love to say keep us informed, but if it works great than you might just keep it to yourself huh? I would!

I'm forever experimenting with set makeup and using whatever works best. See my bag sig. Good luck in the lab!!!

Well, we got Frankeclub out on the course today. I don't think it's going to replace anything in my bag, but it was fun.

The club ended up losing about 4" off the butt. This droped the swingweight to b1. I got about 12 swingweight back onto the club using lead on the head, but the swingweight still sucks. It's probably c4 but I need to get it into the shop to know for sure. The head is a tank and feels very heavy. It's pretty hard to swing and I think my swingspeed suffers because of it.... But I think the head weight would cut through rough really well.

So, hows it play? I only hit it from a grass lie, no tees. From the grass, it hits about 180-200, 15'-30' off the deck and then STOPS! It takes off like a rocket, hits, bounces twice and just stops. It looks like it's got MASSIVE backspin. It's the funniest thing I've seen from a club in a while. I'll bring it to the range this week and see what it does when I can get used to it....

I still like the idea, I just thiink the head would benefit froma heavy hybrid shaft. But I don't think I'm will to spend the money on that "experiment".

Sounds like a good "stinger" club into the wind. Especially if it works off the tee. A 200 yard shot that never gets more than 30 feet off the ground? Sounds like Tiger hitting stinger 6 iron. Might be good on a windy day on short par 4s. And it sounds like it wouldn't take off running into the rough after it touched down.

Ya, ya.. that's it, that's the ticket... Me and Tiger.. Stingers.. Really tho.. It's a Tiger like club for sure.. You'll play just like him using it.. And I'll make you a special deal on it. You could be part of the newest craze, the hywoodbrid golf club..
