Does anyone know of any computer software/programs that keep track of golfing statistics? I would prefer freeware but would not be against paying $30.

I would like the program to figure out my handicap, GIR %, FW%, avg driving distance, PPGIR, PP round, average distance for a putt on a GIR, and up-and-down percentage (optional).

Reviews welcome.

I just started using this thing from www.nethandicap.com they keep pretty good stats, and you can print out an official USGA handicap card from them after you log some rounds. And its only $10.50 per quarter year. I like it alot, but its the only thing ive ever used so I dont have anything for comparison

Clubs I havent thrown in a lake yet

I have been using the online handicapping and statistic application online at www.golf.com for about 6 years and have always liked it. I have several hundred rounds posted and can pull lots of types of stats. There are several other sites these days to do this with. I use this one because it gives me an 'official' USGA handicap - most just give you a proprietary handicap that is not official. It cost $30 a year I believe.

I just started using Stat Doctor, which gives you a 10 round trial. It is nice that it lets you assign "faults" to each hole, along with detailed notes, and then can do a summary of your shortcomings. As if my golf game wasn't humiliating enough! Seriously, the software seems pretty good, and it is $29 to buy. I downloaded it from CNET, I think.

If you are only interested in tracking your golf game’s statistics, then create a spreadsheet with all the formulas and just plug in the numbers. This does nothing to establish an official USGA handicap, but I take it from your post that that is not necessarily what you are trying to do - you are more interested in knowing your numbers.

Intelligolf.com has a nice program -- runs on phones and pda as well as a desktop version.

  • 1 month later...
Mobilegolfstats.com... they track everything for free.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

    • I did not realize that, I was thinking a more traditional golf club.
    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
