This is what I learned from improving my swing. I found that it shouldn't be too hard to improve your golf swing, however

The biggest problem, I think, that people avoid trying to do something they don't feel comfortable with. However, if you want to improve your golf swing, you will need to do different things, different feels, and YES, you would feel uncomfortable at first trying them.

Another problem, this is about consistency. You change your swing and feel. It really really feel uncomfortable for you, but finally you are able to hit a really good shot. The impact feels good, flush, perfect, ect. but you can't do it everytime.

Now what you need is to keep doing what you feel uncomfortable. Golf swing is about repeating the feels whether you feel comfortable with it or not. It's really hard to do, but in order to have more consistency, you gotta do it. Be aware not to go back doing what you felt comfortable with (I still do it sometimes)

And for more consistency, every feels and speed have to be the same. In golf swing, one thing goes wrong, everything goes wrong. Remember, tempo, feels, etc. have to be the same everytime.

This is also from what I learned. I found that I have more consistency while staying in balance and not controlling my golf swing. By this I mean,

in my backswing, I let the club do all the work. I push the club back fast enough with the same speed everytime, so it carries it self to the top.

in my downswing, I rotate my hip back to the target at the same speed everytime, and let everything follow. Again, I don't control anything except my hip speed.

If I something goes wrong, I fix at the top of my swing, but in the downswing, I am still not controlling anything.

This is what I learned from improving my swing. If anyone has a tip to share, please post it, so we can help others improving their game !

Francis Bacon once said, “Writing maketh the exact man.” What I mean to convey with this is that your writing is a bit tough to read. So while your message may have merit – the message is ultimately lost in the writing.

That is absolutely true, especially when it comes to the grip. 90% of the people I run into on the golf course only use an approximation of the classic Vardon grip - their hands never really come together and work as one. Usually it's because their left thumb is still on the left side of the grip rather than the right because it's too uncomfortable to do it the proper way.

The key tips that I try to remember for a simple consistent golf swing are the following:

1) light grip pressure
2) slightly lower rear shoulder
3) straight front arm on the backswing
4) lateral turn of the hips to coil
5) slight bent in the knees
6) rear arms is slightly bent and closer to the body that the front arm
7) On the downswing extend the arms and naturally break the wrist for added acceleration
8) weight transfer to the front foot

MY favorite saying from my swing coach is.
"If it feels wrong it is most likely right."

This is refering to a swing change that feels weird at first but after practice becomes to feel natural.

    • I’ll have to pay attention more attention to the area when I’m there. I know the area to the left of the bunkers off the tee is fescue/native vegetation but I can’t remember what’s around the tee boxes. Something to consider still is that you can’t see the green from the tee. You can’t even see all three bunkers IIRC. So I could have a line on the drive but still not know where it ends up. I think I’d be a lot more comfortable going with driver if I played here more regularly and had a log in my head of where shots tend to end up like I do at the other county courses. I have never hit driver on this hole off the blue tees. I have done it from the gold, but the length and angle are different, and during casual rounds when I didn’t care that much about score. I’m not sure the best time to try it is the second hole of a tournament. Or at the very least, I’m uncomfortable with the idea and that’s probably enough reason not to do it. I see what you’re saying. Wind is supposed to be pushing out more to the right on Saturday, too. I could probably aim right at the bunker and not end up in it. I don’t think there’s anything near the green other than that tiny bunker that would give me trouble. Well, trouble in addition to my short game deficiencies that is. Yea, me too. All I’m thinking is get it in play, put it near the green, chip on and two putt for 5. I’ll have plenty of opportunities to use my length as an advantage later. You realize all of this theory crafting will be moot when I chunk it off the tee, right? 😆

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
