I'm a mini tour player and don't have access to a launch monitor or testing the exact head and shaft combos that I need. I'm currently hitting (going to throw away) a 907 D2 7.5* with 83X Blue Board. It's too much weapon for me. I don't hit it high enough. I'm not sure what my ss is but maybe 115-120. I hit a stock 5-iron 200yds. I would say the average drive is 290. I'm just a little longer than average when speaking about the guys I play with in tournaments. I'm a Mid launch high spin player.

I was wanting to know what you guys think about me switching to the 909 D3 8.5* with Matrix Ozik X FM6 or 7. I have hit the FM6 in a Tour Burner head and I like the way it felt and the flight. I have also heard great things about the voodoo shaft but I yet to try it. I was thinking maybe Voodo XVS7?
I have only hit a 909 D2 9.5* with stock stiff. I hit it straight up into the air and the shaft was certainly not stiff enough. The feel was certainly better than my current driver. The D2 looks like one of those MOI drivers that are going to shoot it straight up into the air. I have hit other Titleist deep face drivers in the past like the D3 is supposed to be (i.e. 983 E) and couldn't achieve the trajectory that I wanted.

I had a TM 425 w/ Accuflex Evolution X and loved the way it felt as well as the trajectory but it was 44.5" I didn't like giving up the five yards.
I'm going to take my old 983 K w/NV75X to the range tomorrow and mess around with that.

Any suggestions from other mini tour players or players with similar ss?

Hey man, seems like you dont wanna give up distance with the driver, and i here the d3 does go a little shorter than the d2, but if you like your 907's look and feel, then just go on ebay, buy a new 907 d2 in 8.5, best way to do it, i love that thing
btw how much do you want for your 7.5 D2??

Well I'm not a big fan of how it looks a feels to be honest with you. I originally wanted the 905 R but Titilest would only send me their new driver at the time. I'm sure the D2 and D3 go about the same, I was just curious about how different the trajectories actually are.

I was also thinking possibly about pulling the BB shaft outta my D2 and purchasing an 8.5* R and putting into that head. Would I be able to do that without having to trim it? I am also guessing it is possible that I may not have the same D2-D3 Swing weight if I put it into a 905 R. Usually when you order Drivers with a heavier shafts from Titleist they adjust the head weight so that it comes out to a D2-D3.

Maybe I could get some pictures of it and you could make an offer?

Hey man, dont throw it away! id be more than happy to take it off your hands!

I would say the D2 personally, as the D3 is the higher spinning lowerlaunching of the D's if i remember correctly.

The 905R is also still a fantastic head, and it would not cost you near as much..
.
Shaft wise, I would personally take the Ozik, i have an ALTUS in my TBTP and its great, i was a low launch player, and its really brought my ball fliight up, so the ALTUS may not be best for you, but both the Code6/7 or Xcon 6/7 would be great shafts for you.

Joe Schmoes have access to those kinds of things. Surely you can find the time to get properly fit. Or, you've got a better chance of that than you do getting an answer here.

Well, I went on a launch monitor in Golf Galaxy but they only had stock shafts in stiff which weren't enough. However I just wanted to get some ideas. I hit a 9.5* D2 and D3 with Diamana BB by Titleist and actually the numbers where strange. It says I launched the D3 more than a degree higher and spun it 200 rpms more. Yeah, that makes sense. I'm pretty sure the shafts that are supposed to be the same weren't. Anyhow, I think I'm going to go with the D3 (which is actually a spin off of the 907 D4 that you can only get from a tour van)
with the Matrix Ozik Xcon-7 shaft (not the Matrix Ozik FM...I meant to put Xcon in earlier posts). I just have to figure out if I want an 8.5* or 9.5*. The guy who "fit" me for 30 bucks recommended the 9.5*. However, this same gentleman was trying to give me a lesson in the hitting net. To his credit though the launch monitor showed that I was hitting up on the ball a couple of degrees more that optimum, which is probably because I am hanging back and flipping it to help get the ball airborne.

As fore that 907 D2 driver P_REEDY, I'll just keep the club as is and sell the shaft in the head. I will work on taking some pictures and sending them to you and we'll go from there if you are interested.

Well the Diamana Blue Board retails for $300. This is not the OEM Diamana "for Titleist", it's an up charge when you order it in a Titleist driver. I am asking $200. I tried to attach a few pictures but was having trouble doing so. If you would like to leave your email and I can send them to you.

I just got fitted for a new Titleist driver myself and the numbers on the monitor showed me that I need the D2 and Matrix Ozik Xcon 5 shaft. I thought I'd like the DComp but the D2 was the best one for me. Good luck!

Yeah 2nd that if you are a "Mini Tour" player you should have more than adequate access to anything you need. I have a couple buddies on Nationwide, NGA, and they get anything they need, or at least have access to one.

I have a 115 SS and I play the Aldila VooDoo XVS7 in my Callaway FT-9 I-MIX. I'm extremely pleased with this shaft, very stable but does not feel dead or unresponsive, smooth strong feel, with a 115 SS the shaft loads nicely. The kicker with this shaft is control, for me at least it imparts a lot of confidence over the ball, draw, fade, or right up the middle, you can just flat out put the ball where you want it. Last season I had a Diamana Whiteboard in my PING Rapture 2 and I'll take the VooDoo any day of the week. Distance is a little better, 10-15 yards, but since I'm not comparing similar Drivers heads I'm not sure if that is a valid statement.
Over the last 6 years I've played Fuji, GD, UST, and the Aldila NV, VS Proto, and the VooDoo gets the nod over all of them. But as you well know shafts are a highly individualistic piece of equipment, so I'm not making any promises, but I do believe you owe it to yourself to give the VooDoo a try.

Asking strangers on a forum how a driver might work for you is not going to get you very far. Every swing is different, and there are so many variables to consider. If you play on the mini-tours in Florida you don't have a tour van, but you are never very far from an Edwin Watts that has a launch monitor and there are plenty of good green grass shops that can fit you on the range. You have to find a head you like and experiment with different shafts until you find the one you hit the best. Having said that, from what you are saying, if you are a mid launch, high spin player, you'll want to start with the 8.5 degree 909D3, and look at a 75 to 85 gram shaft. The 909D2 launches the ball a bit higher with a bit more spin, but with a heavier shaft or lower launch shaft you can bring the flight and spin to the level you are happy with. I'm also a mid launch player, and I have a 909D2 8.5 with the Grafalloy Epic 68x, and it hits BOMBS.

If you go to Golf Galaxy or any place that has a monitor they can give you the info you need to order the right shaft for your game. Or find a demo day at a local range or golf club and they should do fittings for you then. If you cant do that then i would call a local titleist rep and get him to det it up for you.
