After taking a lesson and really concentrating on keeping my head still I have started hitting the ball fat. I corrected it somewhat by standing more upright. Any tips on how to correct this. Thanks

Stand further away from the ball and extend. I don't know if that's the "protocol" for this, but it works for me.

dont rush yourself at the top, and be relaxed through out your swing. Also dont try and kill the ball, because this is why alot of people struggle when trying to make good contact.

If I start hitting it a little fat, I just focus on the front (as opposed to the rear or center) of the ball. Usually clears it up after a few hits. May not be the preferred method, but read that somewhere and tried it. So far so good.

Your most likely staying "to still" just work on transfering your weight over to your left side CORRECTLY and level that swing arc out and work on a one piece takeaway and keep your left arm straight

I know I had a bad habit of leaning over to far at address. On the range yesterday to correct the fat shots I just sttod more upright.

On my lesson the other day I was hitting indoors and we were using the swing monitor we started with the 9 iron. My instructor kept telling me that I was hiiting my shots fat and it would not pick my swing. So I started standing more upright which helped.

What really got me confused about my lesson was my swing plane my 9 iron was OK and when I started my driver I flattened my plane somewhat and he told me to swing steeper. The outcome was good acording to the monitor. My problem on the driver takeaway plane I am all confused should it be the same as the 9 iron.

Oh I am working on the one piece takeaway. Thanks

Hitting fat shots: Inevitably a fat shot comes from the the hands and arms taking over while the body dies through impact. Haney (mentioned above) is likely saying the same thing in his own way. When the hips lead the shot, the swing arc flattens out at the bottom and is more U shaped. When the hands and arms dominate, it is easy to swing out-to-in and over the top, with a more V shaped swing arc. One of the hardest things for players who transition to a body turning swing is hitting topped or thin shots for the first several days. It takes time to measure to the ball when the swing is done correctly. Divots are thinner except for those short wedge scoring shots where a steep downswing is intended. Anyway, consider keeping the club outside the hands on the backswing, and initiating the downswing with a non-sliding turn... your divots should thin out nicely.
