I have always struggled with putting. The problem is that my wrist always breaks down during the putting stroke. It's because I snap the wrists in my full swing. I have tried the claw, conventional and left hand low grip, but nothing seems to work?

Help, anyone?

Have you tried belly putter?

you'll see your flaws quickly on the short range putts. At least, that's how I fixed my stroke.

Yes, didn't work. I've also tried the "hammy" putter. Didn't work either.

I think it might have to do with my grip pressure. It's too light in both hands. I'll try putting more pressure on the right hand to prevent a wristy putting stroke. I'll report back.

If you're too "handsy" an oversized putter grip can help.

Forget about the putter head and just swing the handle,if we focus on the head we try to manipulate the swing, just putt the handle.

That's true. I used to use a Winn oversized paddle style grip and it helped a lot.

I'm not sure if this is sound advice, but a really strong left hand grip combined with a really weak right hand grip will deffinately stop the wrists from flopping around. Of course by strong I mean to the right, and by week I mean to the left (for a right hander).

Try this drill,
Just hit putts with your right hand. Get this feeling down with lots of repition and then when you put your left hand on dont change anything. Try to stick with this feeling.

Ok, I got one of those superstroke grips. I also changed my grip to a very unique way. It's like a left hand low double overlap grip. The difference is like night and day. Thanks for the replies guys!

I had the wrong grip for my putter without knowing it for many years. If you grip the left hand in your life line instead of your fingers you will feel the putter become an extension of your arm and you will start putting with your shoulders and not your hands.

How do you chip around the green because this is the similar motion you use for chipping, taking your hands out and chipping with your shoulders only.

try putting only with your dominant hand, in my case right. you'll notice your distance control will be better and you could probably just take a quick look at the hole and get it pretty close or even in. just try to focus your stroke on using that dominant hand. Just like basketball, you shoot with one hand, the other one is for stability.

I saw a seniors comp on the telly a while ago and (I cant remember who it was) was talking about his unusual putting grip he said his wrist not standing up to the stress anymore. When he putted he held the shaft against the inside of his left forearm whith his right hand making everything solid then he just rocked his shoulders as normal.

Its not about the stroke but more about your head. Read

Excellent article in Golf Digest, Oct 2005 issue on putting.

grip it in your palm
Don't grip the putter in your fingers as you do in the full swing. This type of grip pormotes wrist hinge, which you don't want when you putt. Set the grip through the palm of your left hand or at the crease, with the butt end at the inside of your wrist.

Set up , tilt forward from your hips and let your arms hand, so they can swing freely. For most golfers, ball position shoudl be slightly ahead of center. The shaft should be perpendicular to the ground, with the grip pointing just forward of your sternum. Stand so you feel stacked, your hips over your heels and your weight on the middle of each foot.

Swing longer,not faster
The length of your stroke should change based on the distance to the hole, but your tempo should stay the same. Strive for smooth acceleration through impact. To hit putts of different lengths, many golfers alter their tempo instead of the length of the storke. Focus on swinging back and through the same amount, lengthening your stroke as the putts get longer.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.
