Last night while getting my things together for todays round I had an idea about combining a set of Precept Tour Premium EC603 cavity backs I had lying around with a set of Precept Tour Premium EC603 blades I have. Both sets have the same shafts in them (Nippon 950's) and the same grips (Golf Pride Tour Velvets), so I put a set together that consisted of the following:
Precept EC603 CB's 4, 5, 6, 7
Precept EC603 Blades 8, 9, PW

So this afternoon I went out and played really well with this set-up and shot a 76 from the tips on my home course (6800 yards). So now I think I'm going to continue to use my homemade combo set for awhile and see what happens.
So I was just curious if anyone else has ever put together their own combo set that was never offered that way? Or if anyone ever put a set together that consisted of different models altogether even?
Below are some photos I took of my homemade combo set

Interesting concept. I can't hit blades so I couldn't see myself getting a set like that!
My Equipment:

Goldwin AVDP Irons (5-10 plus PW);
U.S. Golf 60 degree wedge;
See-More Putter; Bushnell Yardage Pro 1000 Rangefinder;Golflogix GPS.

Why did you choose to do 8, 9, P blades and not a 7. Thats one thing I wish I had in my bag is the 7i blade. With my set 5, 6, 7 are mid cav's. I wish the 7 was a blade. Nice looking set though

to be perfectly honest, the only reason i chose the 8, 9, PW set-up is because one of my buddies i play with uses a Bridgestone combo set with that same set-up. i actually did think about putting the 7i blade in the set, but I'm glad I didnt because I played really well today (76).

however, I am playing tomorrow too and i am going to put the 7i blade in the bag for tomorrows round and see how i do with that. granted, i only used the 7 iron a few times today, so it probably wont make much of a difference, but we shall see....thanks for the comment!

I did with my MP-57s and 67s. I hit 4-7 with the 57s, 8-PW with the 67s. Works well for me, since I'm pretty straight with my short irons. Now if I could only stop spraying my driver . . . .

That set looks like a natural progression anyway. And I personally would use the 7 from the cavity set like you did today. To me, the 7 iron seems more like a "power" iron that you just want to hit as high and far as you can. The 8 iron is the highest club that I feel like I'm hitting way down on and trapping. It seems the 8 iron down will do the work itself on loft alone (without any GI aspects) if that makes sense.

Man, those Precept blades look great! I think thats the first time I have seen them.

I'm looking at replacing my Ping S-59s with a new set, and was considering doing this with a Mizuno setup of 4-6 iron in the MP 52's, and 7-9 iron in the MP 67's. I think combo sets are the smartest way to go, and wish I had done that when I bought my current set of irons.

oh yeah, the Fi5's are awesome irons. I bought a set of those a few months ago, but I got such a good deal on them that i turned around and sold them immediately on ebay for a $100 profit, heh. i wish i would've kept them though.

they are sweet. no offset, think top line, and you can work the ball so easily with them. yeah, you dont see many of these around, thats for sure (the Precept EC603 ProSpec blades i mean). i love mine and that is one set i will never sell. they are money (shot 74 with the 4-6 cavity backs, and 7-PW blades today...2 strokes better than yesterday)
