Vokey vs nike sv wedges

Hi

I was thinking about getting some new wedges, a 52 a 56 and maybe replace my 60 aswell. I am currently torn between getting a vokey or nike SV wedges if anyone has any opinions or experience hitting both it would be much appreciated.

Vokeys are the most played wedges for a reason, go with the vokeys nothing else comes close, maybe the CG line, i have them at the moment but im going for the vokeys next time.

go for the vokeys. the nike wedges don't have a good feel. they have a weird swing weight and kinda feel cheap when you hit em. just my opinion of em when i tried them out.

My only concern about the vokeys were that they were gonna hack up my balls

anyway play the new VR wedges yet?

I have one of each and actually appreciate them both. I love the spin off the Vokeys and the shape of the Nikes. Only reason I don't switch to all Vokeys is that the SV shape in the 60* is just perfect. It gives me greater confidence when I just need to pinch that ball.

Yes, for a time they will. This is even more true if you play a soft cover ball. My advice is to dial in your distances at a driving range with your new Vokeys over a few hundred balls per wedge. This will take a little edge off of the grooves and punish the range's balls (instead of yours). After about 1-6 months, depending on your frequency of play, those groove marks on the ball go away. At that point you will have a consistent spin and a wedge you will love. That is just my experience though. Others experiences will certainly varry.

I would look at the SV wedges when you get them new they have a differnent feel on them, but once you get used to them the ball control is excellent. I find alot of people dont like to go for the nike gear as they feel it is a poorer quality, plus you are already using the cci irons and these wedges fit in with those irons perfectly. If they are good enough for Tiger I am sure most people should like them...

I play the SV tour wedges, my brother plays Vokeys. I find it hard to choose which is best, there really isn't much between them.

The vokeys have a great shape and are well balanced. I am very comfortable with them. But if you're good enough you can get up and down with 10 dollar walmart wedges so i guess its all personal preference.

wow the spin milled wedges are awesome i have the 52, 56, and 60 and i love them!!! if you want spin then get the titleist spin milled volkeys!!!!

id check out the cleveland cg14's as well. they are outstanding clubs as well. im getting those in the spring.

whether or not a specific wedge is better than another comes down to personal preferance. all the clubs on the market are really good and can perfrom really well. its up to the player to decide which wedge they like best.

Just stay away from the spin milled and go for the 200 series then. Ive noticed the 200 series doesnt chew up balls as nearly as much as the SM do. My 58 is the spin milled model, but i never take a full swing with that club so its not too bad. Something to consider. My 54 is 200 series because i often take full aggressive swings with that club. Plus the milled groves will add alot of backspin on the ball, which might leave you short on your distances with a full swing.

Got all three of my Vokey wedges new middle of last summer and I love them (previously played PING MBs). Played V1x and V1 and found, in my experience, the worries about "shredding" balls to be overstated. Sorry I can't speak to the Nike wedges, and I assume you will try both and see what you like best, but I can't think of anything about the design or feel of the Vokeys that I can be negative about.

You'll find that the Nike and Vokey are very similar. I owned Spin Mills before my SV's. Feel wise, they're both cast (not forged) and pretty soft. They both have a pretty square face, which I like. The SM's have a bit sharper grooves that shred balls. The SV's grooves aren't as aggresive, but don't spin as much on half shots.

If you can generate your own spin and play out of the fairway more, I'd go Nike. If you're in the rough around the green a lot, I'd go with the Spin Mills. The sharper grooves put more spin on the ball with a lot of grass in front of it.

I'd be interested in the Nike Victory Reds, as they're forged. I'd also suggest the Mizuno T wedge. They're forged with grooves in between the SM and SV's. There are guys that say forged wedges don't make a difference, but I feel they're a bit crisper.

I went out and tried them both last saturday and.... I could not decide!
the Vokey feels lighter and "easier" in your hands, while the Nike (with its heavier s400 shaft) feels more solid; if you shoot a lot of balls in a row at the driving range your arms may fall off (mine would); but they both provide plenty of spin and control. In a full shot I could go longer with the VR (both for the 56° and 60° that I tried). Short flop shots came maybe easier with the Vokey, although with the VR and a bit of patience you may be able to accomplish more control and shaping.
So I brought back home a happy feeling for the Vokey and respect and wonder (of what they could do) for the VR.
In other words, I could not decide.

I have a vokey wedge and love it. It has a great feel and control for me. but go with what feels best in your hands with a few swings. From what i've heard the Nike vr is pretty similar. I like the nike too and am considering getting a 52. Go with what feels best though

I picked up a vokey 56 and 60 today and they're great. Perfect angle choices and my 60 picks up RIGHT where the 56 leaves off. My 56 has a little less distance than the ancient Spalding 56 I was using before, but that is quite all right. I wasn't sure if I had enough distance between my SW and PW to warrant a GW. There is an awkward little space in there, but the clubs still overlap a little. Now I can justify a GW and don't have to pay a terrible amount of attention to either hitting a SW hard or hitting a PW weak. I'll pick up a 52 soon and be able to just swing awaaay :)
