The dress code thread got me wondering how much everyone spends on golf clothes... for the sake of the poll, we're talking shirt and pants/shorts... but in the thread we can discuss the other variables such as hats, socks, belts, etc.

I personally like to spend $10-$30 on my polos and $15-$40 on my shorts or pants. That being said... I have quite a few nice moisture wicking polos that were regular price of $40-$70 and I've picked them up on sale for under $20. My favorite shirts are the Jack Nickaus polos at Dillard's. For pants I just go with regular bermuda length hemmed dess shorts, or pants similar to Dockers. I'll buy shorts at the end of summer to save money. Same goes for warmer clothes... I buy them in the spring to save. Not so much out of necessity as it is because I don't like throwing money away, and stuff is always half off towards the end of the season. I'll do the same when I buy a new driver here in a few weeks... why pay $400 when I can pay $100-$200?

I happen to like golf shirts and spend a lot on them. I look for a double or triple mercerized cotton with a tight weave. My favorites are the Marbas black label and the Italian-made Bobby Jones. I have some clima-cool type shirts also, but they're only for extreme heat. As for pants, the Dockers golf pants are fine. I prefer to play in (non-cargo) shorts and do so when the weather is nice.

Of course the best time for buying spring outfits is in the fall (and vice versa). I like those synthetic blend polos as well. Some of my favorites are Ping, Adidas, Nike, Chaps and such. I try not to shoot the moon on clothing prices. Like you said, some $50 shirts can be had for $20 or less. With synthetics you don't really have to dry them and thus they never shrink. They make a great value as they will last several seasons. Shorts are harder for me to find a comfortable fit in. If they fit in the waist they are too tight in the seat and thighs. A lot of shorts come below my knees which I don't like. So I'll spring a little more, as much as $30, for a really comfortable and well fitting pair.

I voted $30-$70. I have gotten outfits slightly outside this range (on both sides), but that is a good budget.

$30-70 is about right . . . unless you can find them on sale, then cheaper is better!

Yep.

Found some Reebok Golf hydromove fabric polo's on sale....$40 each and some Greg Norman slacks (high tech fabric) also on sale for $50 or so. They've done very well....especially the shirts. If I see more on sale...especially in white, I'm gonna jump on them for spring / summer golf around here. White is all you can stand to wear.

I dont get this, like if you look in a golf digest, and they show current styles and such, the shirts are usually about 150, and the pants around their too. Like 90 bucks for most belts. I highly doubt the average person is going to shell out 240 for a shirt and a belt. I voted 30-70.

Off-season is the time to do it! I got 3 walter hagan shirts, 2 addias, and two izod shirts for under 50 bucks at marshalls about a month ago. I put the bag between my legs as I turned towards the door and rode out like the lone ranger! yeeehaw!

I spent $30-$70. You can buy golf outfits pretty cheap if you know when to buy.
Last fall I bought a Mizuno polo shirt for $20 and a Mizuno Windlite vest for $30 from 3 Balls. Last week I bought a Mizuno windlite sweater for $40 from TGW (regular price is $120). Buying off-season and buying when that golf retailers have the stuff heavily discounted is the way to go. You can sometimes do pretty good on Ebay as well. Ive seen a few Mizuno fleece jackets on Ebay that went for pretty cheap. The only reason I didnt pull the trigger on it is because the snow typically puts an end to the golf season around here before it gets too cold.
For pants I normally just go to the local department store (JC Penny) and buy khakis. You can usually get those for about $20.
The only golf outfit that I spent a lot of money on are my plus-fours/knickers. Those cost me about $100 from T. Barry Knickers.

I voted for $70 and up, I only buy the finest threads. I can be seen in the best clothing on the golf course on any given day.

$30-70. I bought a couple PGA Tour shirts at JC Penney's last summer and love how they stay cool and dry. They are 100% polyester. The only thing I don't like is how easily they snag. I don't care about brand...is there a cheap shirt similar to this or the Under Armor shirts?

i like to golf in bermuda shorts when im allowed(not during tournaments, or high school golf season). The only problem with these is that i need to have a thick kacki fabric or else i will sweat through the shorts, and that is always embarassing. Anyone else deal with this problem on those 85* days?

I can typically go to a department store and get synthetic golf shirts for about 20 bucks...this is a great deal. Of course everybody has to have their nike red golf shirt...i paid around 80 for mine. As for pants i can get brand name usually cheap, normally 90 bucks for around 35-45.
As for the out of season deals on websites...i havn't found those.

I feel you on that one. The best deals I have found on golf attire has not been at golf stores or on golf websites, but retail clothing stores. Kohls is one of my favorites, but only on the clearance racks. I ripped Belk's one weekend on a red dot sale. Reebok poly polo shirts for $10!

i know, when i walk into a golf store all the shirts are around 50 and up, and the cheapest pants are 70 bucks...what a ripoff. I can get last years clothes down the road from my golf shop for more half price.

I pay $30 to $70, but a LOT closer to 30... as in about $32 on average.

We have an IZOD outlet within 90 minutes, and a trip or two there per year, $150 at a time, gets me pretty well set for the entire year.

As I said in the first post... my favorite is the Jack Nicklaus line at Dillard's... they stay more dry than a few others that I have tried (such as Walter Hagen and those that you mentioned). Also, I am 6'4" and they are a little longer than the JC Penny ones, so they stay tucked in better. Also, Khol's has dockers golf shirts and another line that is somewhat similar to the JC Penney's ones, but maybe just a tad bit better feeling, but I also don't think they are quite long enough for me.

I got 3 pairs of microfiber slacks last summer at Sam's Club for $15 each... limited colors (black, tan, brown) but the price can't be beat. I buy most of my shirts in the pro shop where I work... cost plus 10%. An $80 Ben Hogan is $45.

Keep an eye on the "Bunker Pages" of Edwin Watts and the closeout items at the The Golf Warehouse. It's amazing to see the cost difference bying last years style vs. the "new" stuff. Same thing with the shoes....unreal shoe savings. I couldn't imagine paying the big $$$$ for some of the shoes....when you can get a super high quality shoe that is one model year old for half the price.
