How do you alighn your ball (not just for putting...)

So, how do you align ball on tee box, putting, etc? Is this important to you and if so, why?

These days it's very important for me to align my ball using the sidestamp and have that turned in the direction I am hitting, but I do not want to see the sidestamp or any other logo, number or mark on the ball if at all possible. I want to see only white ball.

A few years ago I went on a golf trip with some buddies. I had just gotten back into the game after college, girlfriendsd, work, etc. On that trip I was having a an issue that caused me huge problems. When I was looking down at the ball just as I was in my backswing my eyes would focus on the writing/stamps on the side of the golf ball and I would actually be reading it during my swing. Obviously, this resulted in a bad strike most of the time. When I realized what I was really doing I started turning the ball so almost all I could see was white area and this helped. I even started doing this in fairway, because that is where the problem was the worst. Turning the ball like this helped me tremendously. Since that time I have made a habit of always aligning the ball so that sidestamp is aimed at target, but little else can be seen on the ball when standing over it. I do not touch ball in the fairway and no longer have the problem - aligning ball this way is just as habit/routine now. I've always thought my ideal golf ball would have a small alignment mark on one side (like sidestamps now) and absolutely nothing else.

Golf ball name logo (ex: Slazenger, or Titleist, or Callaway) pointing at initial flight path target. Example. On the tee box long par 4 with 25 mile per hour left to right wind. Aim logo at left edge of fairway. I usually align other logo (if there is one--ex putting line mark or compression number where my club face will meet the ball).

Because of my method, I don't like Nike balls. They use the swoosh as name/logo. It is a significantly curved logo. Don't like this mental image on the tee box or anywhere else.

Funny....... I actually use the logo to hit the ball on the inside quadrant. When I tee up I put the logo where I want to make contact with the ball. It helps me to swing from in to out.

If I am having problems keeping my head down I will put the logo on top, if not I put the logo facing my right foot to help with the inside to out swing.

when im teeing up... i like to have the stamp facing the impact zone away from the target... this may seem stupid but it gets me imagining that if i use the right amount of power it will leave a reverse imprint on my club face right on the sweetspot... anything to up my mental game

I dont align my ball and other than for putting, I see no reason to.

I usually do the same as you and make sure I am not able to see anything but white. I had the same problem as you and would have some terrible hits, but got much better when I started turning the ball.

Glad it's not just me. It was just strange how I would be in my backswing and all of a sudden my eyes would lock in on the writing. It about drove me crazy during that golf trip. Thankfully I had lots of alcohol and the nice ladies at "Thee Dollhouse" to help me get over it during the evenng hours.

I use a ball spinner (Technasonic) to put a black stripe around all of my balls. I use it to align the direction of my drive the same as I do for puts. I set up at a right angle to the line on the ball. Since it is just a stripe, there is nothing distracting to "read."

to be consistent you need a pre-shot routine for hitting, irons, drivers and even putts.

part of the pre-shot routine is alignment.

I stand behind the ball and the target and aim the iron and draw a line and literally place my club down on the ground and and turn it perpendicular so that I know it is square to the target, put my feet parallal with the square club face and spread my feet. I check my left grip then place my right hand on the club, I will waggle a few time look at my take away and make sure it is on line and move the club until it is on the starting point in reference with the ball.

In summary for my alignment I pick a spot between the target and my ball, it could be behind or ahead of the ball. This aids in alignment and make sure your feet are parallal with the target. you can double check you alignment by dropping a club where you feet are and walk behind to make sure you are on the target line. you knees, shoulders and hips should also be parallal with the target.

once you are on line with the target if you hit off line you can eliminate your alignment.

Nope... don't worry about it. You can't align it except on the tee or green, so I don't get the big deal about doing it any time. Just another irrelevancy to distract me when I'd rather be thinking about the shot at hand. I look at the back of the ball when I swing and nothing else.

I don't pay any attention to the logo -- ball alignment at address for me is all about picking something 18" - 24" in front of the ball to hit directly over (i.e., on the line I want the ball to travel).

Same here. logo ball suck for this reason, they have stuff on every side! All I want to see is white.

I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

I had a pro tell me to stand behind the ball and pick anything that's in front of the ball that's in the same line to the target. This is where I aim instead of at something like the flag stick. There's a lot less error in judgement this way. I also just put the ball on the tee no matter which way it's facing.

Yup... I'm a spot golfer too. Full shots and chips and putts, same process. Pick a spot on the line I want to hit and align myself to that spot and line. The orientation of the ball shouldn't make any difference if you are aimed properly.

I align it so that I can't see anything except white ball surface. I like that method because I want to concentrate on the larger picture of the swing path through the ball.
