So I was in a local golf shop today that I go to once in a while because it's a bit farther away, but has a different selection of clubs, balls, etc. than other places. While trying some other putters out, I noticed in the putting area a stand with some Rife putters, which I had never heard of before that point. I hit some balls with one, a 34" Martinique, and it felt amazing. Despite the fact that I generally don't like straight shafts, it didn't bother me on this putter, although the 34" shaft was noticeable. I definitely need a 35". It has grooves to promote a forward rolling ball (like Yes putters except the grooves go straight across), and I just got the best feel from it compared to everything else I tried today, including a couple Camerons, some Odysseys, and a few Yes putters (my favorite being the Callie-f).

Does anybody own a Rife putter and has for a period of time who can attest to them? It felt great in a store on an indoor mat, but how does it feel on real grass? Also, it doesn't seem to be a current model as its relatively difficult to find online. Amazon is the only reputable place I've found one in stock. Does anybody know anywhere else I could find one since I need a 35".

I have a Rife Two Bar, and have had it for maybe six months. I love it! Don't hesitate if you like it. I don't recall exactly, but I believe mine is 35 inches with a 1 inch extension. I put a Winn grip on it. The two bar comes with a lie bender as well.

I purchased a 2bar hybrid last year, cut about 4 to 6 strokes within 2 rounds. I purchased a 2bar blade (used) a little later in the year.

I picked both of mine up on Ebay, got the hybrid new for about $30 less than on the site or in a store. Came with the weight set, headcover and bending tool. No reason to fear Ebay for me.

The Rifes are def. awesome. Probably mostly used on the Champions Tour.

I had a similar experience trying a Rife in shop two weeks ago - Antigua model - I thought the feel was brilliant.

I play with a guy quite regularly who uses the 2bar and really likes it. Justin Rose also uses one.

I'm currently happy with my PingZing2 but if I look to change Rife are up near the top of my list!

Thanks for the input guys! I'm not too interested in the 2 bar putters since I like the basic blade with no weight behind it. With any mallet or blade with weight behind it, my stroke immediately becomes much less consistent and reliable.

After doing some research online, I went back and tried the Cayman today and loved it as well. The toe weighting felt great, my stroke felt solid, and the feel was just as last time. However, I don't think I can bring myself to pull the trigger on a $180 putter right now since I already have a pretty nice one that I didn't get too long ago. As my game improves, and I plan on improving it a lot this year, I'll definitely be keeping that Rife Cayman in mind (since I doubt I'll be able to find the Martinique new later on and I don't get used clubs as a rule).

Out of curiosity and since I didn't know it was possible, how does a shaft extension work? Does it have any negative effects to the shaft? I definitely use that last inch on my putter shaft, so I wouldn't want to do that if it would feel different or otherwise impact the shaft.

They remove the grip, epoxy an extension in there, and replace the grip. I would never know there was an extender in there if they didn't tell me that was how they did it. Figure that the Hosel is epoxied on the other end, and it holds just fine.

I use the Barbados model and love it just feels better to me than the 2bar because is all metal design I dont like the face insert to much on the 2bar but there all really good and the "roll-groove"tech is very noticable when you get on a green with alot of dew on it just watch the line the ball leaves youll be amazed on how it doesnt skip so much like alot of putters deff a convidence booster.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
