Target view and Front view. I have a really bad problem with dropping the club down at the top, which equals really flat swing plane. I am trying to get to the very root of the problem, and having a lot of trouble with it.

Help?

here are some videos:

From the side view, it looks like your back foot like slides forward in the swing, whereas it should stay where it started just pivot on your toes. Your hands are pressed in front of the ball a lot too. trim stance a tad, make sure your right knee is as quite as possible. Other than those minute changes, your swing looks pretty good. I don't see a big problem with the hand drop, it's just slotting the club into plane.

You have a lot of shaft press before you take your shot. Do you hit the ball low?

About you you going flat, I wouldn't worry about it, if it's not effective your swing. Looks like you have nice tempo and you are getting the ball up in the air well.

Not a bad looking swing. Just a couple of things to think about.

That back foot sliding up, you obviously know it's important to balance throughout that swing but your stance may be too wide, as your feet are way outside your shoulders. You use that to get a lot of lateral hip motion which can mess with your tempo on your funny days. Bring those feet in a bit, just under the shoulders. Then you can finish still connected to the ground.

You've also got a bunch of forward shaft press at address. Yes, it does get you hitting down on the ball and forward shaft lean is important for good contact. However, you should refrain from creating extreme lean. Again, on your funny days, you probably take some real deep divots if you're getting that much lean because the bottom of the arc is made effectively further from where you want it to be. Try setting up relaxed, hands infront of your body, nothing too akward or off balance. Clean body lines.

I really don't see the dropping of the club at the top. It looks like you're trying to hold it off. I've got some really flexible wrists so I definitely need to limit my shoulder turn but you seem to keep a consistant angle from forearms to club and look pretty far from overturning.

Hope this helps.

Hey everyone

From the help here, and the advice I've gotten on GolfWRX and SwingAcademy, here is what I'm gonna do.

1. Spend a week or 2 working on the fundamentals: Weakening my grip (from 4 visible knuckles on the left hand, to 2), narrowing my stance, decreasing the shaft lean, and getting a slightly improved posture.

2. Then, work on the problem of my right elbow flying out at the top of my swing. Instead, focus on keeping it in tighter to my chest.

3. Finallly, work again on keeping my spine angle at impact, not standing up a whole lot.

I spent some time today at the range working on the first part, the results astounded me. Lost some distance, but my consistency went ^ SO MUCH, it was amazing.

Hey everyone

As I watch the video, just as you reach the top, it appears your weight goes off of your back foot, and back onto your front foot again. As you work on number 2, you might solve this. Then again, I may not be correct. Does anyone else see this? Is this something that should be avoided?

Yea I wondered about that too but in his analysis dietz mentions that he starts to rotate his hips before he completes his backswing and that this is the proper sequence, I did not know that, always learning from these sites.

    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.

    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
