Fuggem. Seriously. I love the game of hockey, the sport of hockey.

I despise players now, and I despise owners. I haven't even followed the latest bullcrap, so I'm not even sure who is at fault here or what anyone wants, but I do know this: hockey was in a downward spiral with the American public before any of this happened.

Both sides are fighting over money that simply may not exist when they attempt to "return."

Any sport that has the majority of its playoffs on ESPN and not ABC, CBS, or NBC needs to wake up and smell the ice.

First and foremost, I agree. Fuggem.

Of course, born and raised and still living in Florida, I could not care less about hockey - the only time I ever intentionally watched hockey was when the Lightning streaked through the playoffs and won the Stanley Cup, but only because I'm a St. Pete boy by birth, so hometown team and all that. Plus, at the time, I had quite a few co-workers from Calgary, so the whole Tampa vs. Calgary thing really had meaning here.

But then again, there are other sports that would desperately love to get ESPN (or even ESPN2, for that matter) coverage, even for just one event (largely thinking disc golf here). But I get what you're saying - based on the supposed big-ness of the sport, it being relegated to ESPN only and no network coverage, is troublesome.

I definately think the lack of NHL coverage has helped a lot of other sports gain much more exposure, especially LDA Long Driving competitions which has seen more coverage this year than I can ever remember.

Hockey is still the only sport I'll go out of my way to watch. I watch others when they are on, but I plan ahead for the Devil's games.

Brendan Shanahan is a member of another forum I participate in. He has offered some "stop and make you think" insight as to what the problems in the organizations are. There are many. I am not at liberty to disclose them here, but I can say that an average, to slightly above average fan will never see these problems. They simply get sugar-coated for television.

Sit back and relax...the hockey you will see in the future will be the best hockey you've ever seen.

I have a feeling we're about to see the best hockey ever played when the game comes back. Some of the changes the NHL are talking about implementing should definitely allow for more scoring and more excitement.

The big question is when is the new CBA going to be done?

I liked the scoring the way it was.

Just a notch above soccer (futbol), which was fine by me. 3-2 is an acceptable score.

I have tried to get into hockey in the past, but I just never have been able to. I guess living in southwestern Oklahoma does that for me. Hockey isn't necessarily pushed in this area. Then again, nothing is besides Oklahoma and Oklahoma State college sports.

The funny thing is, I was really wanting to give the NHL one more chance about this time last year. I went out and bought NHL 2004 and started playing it in hopes of learning some stuff about the game and getting into it. Then they went on strike, the season was over before it started, and I said to heck with it.

So the NHL can stick it for all I care, although I think they will be back in force when October rolls around at the least.

I'm not a huge hockey fan but the few times that I've been to hockey games have been one of the the best sports I've seen in person. I've watched a few AAA hockey games... Seattle, Portland, Tacoma... there were just about as many punches thrown in the Seattle/Portland game than at a typical boxing match which made it interesting. I think they are all ticked they weren't in the NHL. Plus its kind of funny watching toothless guys in any sport.

I think he is a great player, a lot of people seem to compare him to Gretzky, which I think that pointwise (especially with the new rules and regs for the NHL) he will be comparable if not better than Gretzky. But I think he is a much better 2-way player than Gretzky was, he isnt afraid to throw his weight around and such, kinda like Peter Forsberg or someone like that. I am looking forward to seeing him play with the NHLers so I can see how he compares. I really hope that he really is humble like the press seems to portray him, I would hate for him to be a cocky SOB now and then not end up doing well What I am curious about is how many veterans retire when all the team changing is said and done.

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
