Well, found out about a month ago that my wife is pregnant with our first child... wonder how much this will impact my time available for golf. Anyone know any good babysitters in the North-Charlotte area?

Maybe it is just me but I would have thought an online internet forum a bad place to find someone that you're going to trust your kid's life with!

P.S. Congratulations!

Do you have a net to hit in the garage, I believe that's how Tiger Wood got interested in golf when he was only a few month old.

and don't forget to read, read and read to your child even Golf Digest.

My love for this game has only grown since we had our first daughter. She's 3 1/2 and just starting hitting balls the other day... It really is a wonderful thing.

Congratulations on the new addition, it may take some time from your golfing but eventually you'll have a new golfing partner.

I'd drop terms like: "knocked up". Your golfing will be impacted well before the baby arrives. Your wife is going to go through a tremendous hormone roller coaster throughout the pregnancy and well beyond. You have a seat on that ride, too. You'd better embrace it and know your role.

She's gonna be extremely sensative to all sorts of comments and ideas. Make sure that yours are positive and support a good self-image of her. Golf.....don't even mention it.....don't talk about it around the house. She couldn't care less about hearing about some great shot you made or some nice piece of wedge-work. Forgetaboutit. Tell those stories to your buddies. Spare her the details. It's gonna impact your game for sure. I suppose the question is what are you willing to give up to keep up some semblance of normality for your game? In other words....what other hobbies will you put on hold for the next couple of years so you can golf? Better whittle it down quickly. Congrats on fatherhood. Embrace every moment of what you are about to experience. There is no greater blessing and pleasure that I've ever experienced. I wish you both the best.

I don't really think the term knocked up would bother her in most cases... we are both very excited as we have been trying for months. As for golf... she was just talking to her aunt the other day asking her how far along she would be before she wouldn't be able to golf with me. I doubt very much that she will mind occaisional conversion regarding my birdie on 7. Looks like she won't be comming with me this week since she's still feeling a little quesy, but that gets better in a little while. She's still hoping to go on a spring golf weekend with me. Anyway... I completely understand my priorities are going to change a bit and there will be less time for hobbies come September... but I suspect I'll still play about half as much as now... and I can't wait to buy some junior clubs for him/her.

My daughter was born Dec 22, 2008 so I can give you a little perspective. Keep in mind there's no playing golf here now due to snow but plenty of ranges open.

Anyway, before she was born I practiced every night. After, I'm lucky to pick up the club once during the day. She's 7 weeks and it's getting less demanding. I expect to be able to play this season. Hopefully once a week. It certainly changes your life.
