About to buy a complete set of clubs from gigagolf; their GX920 line (3w, 3h, 4-lw) and their GX squared Ti.

Anyone care to provide some much needed input before I drop the $334.30?

Thanks,

Bob Huddleston

Take a look at used equipment. For what you are looking to spend you could pick up some decent stuff that's a couple years old.

I dont know anything about GigaGolf, so I am not going to recommend nor advise against them. However, before you spend that money, have you held one of these clubs, or had the opportunity to hit one of them? The clubs you buy are likely to be in your bag for several years, so I would be sure to try out as many models as possible before making a purchase. In the long run, you will be glad you did.

To take the contrary position, gigagolf produces a nice, inexpensive product with reasonable service. I like the ability to change out the shafts and grips, and their "fitting" service. Friends have used them and were quite pleased with their products.

Their products mimic leading manufactures products at a high discount. I do not like paying all that marketing when buying a club.

Personally I like new clubs. They have a certain feel and appeal like the new car smell. They generally are a slightly better technology, etc.

Give it a whirl !

Okay...I bought them. 13 clubs (Driver through Lob) for $400. They're supposed to be comparable to the Callaway x20's and the F-ti. I'll have them at least until April when I need to decide to send them back for a refund or keep them.

If I end up sending them back, does anyone here know if I can get the same type of set up used from Callaway for about the same price?

Thanks,

Bob Huddleston

I bought a very good condition used set of X-20's (4-PW) on ebay for $320

That's about what I was finding...by the time I added the F-Ti driver, the 3 wood, the 3 hybrid, and the other 3 wedges I was way over twice the cost of the 4-pw. I couldn't find all 13 clubs used at anywhere near the price for these.

Thanks though,

Yep. The best I could do over there was about $900 for all 13 clubs in average condition. Almost 3 times higher cost.

Congrats,

The nice thing about getting a full set for 400 bucks is that if your game improves, and/or if you realize a specific club, or group of clubs doesn't work for you, you won't feel as bad about trying some new equipment. Good for you for getting something you want at a reasonable price. Take the money you saved and play more golf.

You could've gone with older clubs?

I found:
FT-I driver Average condition
X 2008 fairway 3 and 5 wood average condition
X-18 3-PW average condition
X-Forged chrome 50* (bent to 51), 56*, and 60* in average condition
for 824. and that wasn't even looking for lowest prices, or older clubs (oldest was the X-18's).

Just pointing out, I bet you could find a full set of good clubs for under 800.

Hope you like the clubs, you as AbsoluteZero said you can always buy better stuff if you don't like it.

Honestly.... at $400 for Driver through LW, and at a 29 handicap, I think you did well. I'm definately all for buying slighty used brand name clubs. When you play these down to a 18ish handicap then I would say go the slightly used route. But for now, just know that you did pretty well. When you get to that point, you should be able to get half that ($200) in resale for an ENTIRE set. The best clubs would do well to resale at 50% of their new cost. Now get that handicap down and research clubs as you go.

Good Luck!

Considering all the clubs you got, you did well and got a great deal. Enjoy your new clubs. If you love them, play with them for a long time (try not to develop expensive habits like buying clubs to try to fix a poor ball flight, etc)

I just found http://dealadaygolf.com/
I have seen brand new state of the art drivers here for around $110
Many have had good things to say about these irons http://www.golfio.com/golf-equipment...-set/34316.htm

As your game improves, I would replace your clubs in the following order
SW
GW
PW
9i
Driver

Replace your wedges and 9i with forgiving forged clubs (used clubs tend to be cheaper) Forged wedges and 9i will help you develop feel for the short game. Take a look at MacGregor NVG2s and similar used forged clubs.
Replace your driver when you are hitting the fairway around half the time with your current driver. Or if you can't stand your driver, replace it right away. With today's technology, a great driver (even for the high handicapper) makes the game much more enjoyable.
