I ordered a set of X-18 pro's in Good condition. I read that everyone thinks the rating system they have is awesome and order one grade less and you will be very happy.
Not in my case......
I received the clubs and the first thing I noticed was the shaft bands on about 1/2 the clubs was peeling off. The 5 iron has a good size nick on the toe (about the size of a BB) and two of the ferrels were rising up.
I called just to ask if this is normal.
I was told I can send them back. The shipping would be at my cost.
I really don't want to wait two weeks for the turn around.
I emailed the Customer service Manager with a letter and a picture.
No response......????
I would think they could down grade the price to at least average condition
(-$40) or swap out the 5 iron????

I guess this is the risk of buying used sight unseen...

Has anyone else had this type of issue with them?

I had pretty good luck with them, I traded in some very old woods, like the original S2H2, for a FT-5 driver. It was in pristine condition, as a matter of fact, I'm not sure it had ever been hit but was listed as used. They did knock $15 off my trade in's as having non standard shaft, which I couldn't argue as I bought all of the trade in's used and they could of had different shafts.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

I also have no complaints. Bought a set of Big Berthas 3-PW that were rated as being in "GOOD" condition. When the arrived i was pleased to see that they were in excellent condition. Looked like they had never been hit. I Have nothing but great things to say about Callaway Preowned and Callaway.

I only have one transaction with them. I thought they did a terrific job. What grade did you order?

I ordered them in "Good" condition. They have 4 grades. This was 2 out of 4.
They never responded to the email I sent with the picture?
I did get a credit on my card for $9.95. I called to ask why, and they said that the tracking number never showed my info on delivery date. I asked about the condition issue again and why I didn't get a response from the Cust. service manager? He didn't have an answer except I can send them back for a different set. I explained that I just want to make sure that my grade wasn't a mistake. I don't want to take the time of sending to them and them sending back.
I took some mag polish to the clubs, trimmed the shaft bands, and glued down the ferrels. The only issue is the nick on the 5 iron......

I have dealt with them twice and I have no issues with them at all. In fact I have referred them to people i know looking to buy new clubs. Mind you both of my transactions were with clubs in the highest rating and I am pretty sure both the irons I purchased and the wedges were never used. It's unfortunate you are having such an issue with their customer service.

I think Callaway is an incredible company when it comes to customer service, and their pre-owned site (which I believe is now somehow related or owned by the company) is top notch.

I do have one complaint, though. I bought a set of "like new" x-14 irons from them last summer. When the clubs arrived, I immediately noticed that they had been refinished. I realize this might be a bonus for some people, but for me it was not. There was overspray on the face where white lines were painted, and the club heads had quite a bit of bag chatter (which cannot be removed during the refinishing process). The grips had been replaced with Callaway Hawkeye full cord grips (as opposed to the stock Big Bertha velvet grips that came with the clubs originally). All in all, I wasn't particularly pleased.

I called them up to return the clubs, and while they were willing to take them back, they made it a point to tell me that I should have expected that the clubs were refinished because the x-14s are several seasons old. While I agree with that general proposition, I feel they should have advertised the clubs as refinished as opposed to like new. I mean, why not? Why not give the consumer the information?

Anyway, after a bit of back and forth, they told me that I could return the clubs, but that I was responsible for paying shipping both ways because the clubs were as described. We ended up agreeing for me to pay shipping one way and them the other. I guess that was an okay resolution, but I was out $15 sending the clubs back to them and I really didn't think I did anything wrong.

Anyway, aside from that experience, and now knowing that "like new" means refinished when it comes to older clubs, I think they are a top notch company with excellent customer service.

I have bought twice from cpo and the service and quality have been excellent. I actually made a third purchase yesterday and my order was shipped out within an hour and a half of completing my order. The only problem I had was in all three instances, the sales guy said I will give you free shipping. I goated them into it saying "are you sure, are you sure" and each time they said "yes free shipping". Then I tell them I live in hawaii, and they say, "oh, i cant do that." Long story short they give me 2-3 day shipping for like 11 bucks, which is awesome. In the first two instances, I received my club(s) in 3 days. I am hoping my third order follows the same pattern.

I thought I would share my recent expirence this past weekend. I recently ordered a "LIKE NEW" 3 wood from callawaygolfpreowned.com. When I recieved the club on saturday I opened it up and much to my surprise it had a big scratch mark on the bottom and shaft looked like it had chatter marks down it. Now this is about the 5th club I have bought from them and never have I recieved a club like this. I called up customer service and explained to them what I had recieved and that I have bought from them before and never had any problems and that this club clearly wasn't "LIKE NEW" The customer service rep informed me that Monday they were going to ship me a new 3 wood and that I would recieve Tuesday. They also emailed me a return label to ship them back the 3 wood I recieved. Once again Callaway proved to me there customer service is #1 and also why every club in my bag except for my putter is callaway. I urge you not to lose confidence in them and to not hesitate to order from them again. 99.9% of the time they will not dissapoint you and if they do they do their best to make up for it.

Wow that is strange considering Callaway's record with quality of preowned clubs. Well some lemons do fall through the cracks. Too bad it happened to you.

I am over it now. They refunded my shipping $ (I am not real sure why?)
I too thought they would send a call tag and send out a new set.
I still think I received the bottom grade clubs.
Shaft bands peeling...no problem
Ferrels rising up....OK

I’ve placed & received orders for 2 drivers, a fairway wood, a hybrid, 2 sets of irons, 2 wedges & 2 putters so far & have been disappointed with condition only once. Several times I think the condition was better than advertised.

Like you, I complained when a club that was supposed to be “Like New” came in with a small dent in the face. They weren’t interested in giving me money off either, so I just kept it & grumbled a lot.

Overall, it’s a good place to get clubs, though. I just got a driver last week that was supposed to be “Good” & I could only find one imperfection on it. Yeah, it's buyer beware, but that company is pretty good at what it does.

  • 2 weeks later...
I am now done with dealing with Callaway preowned on this order...
I took the set in question to the range for the first time.
They seemed very upright. I had them checked and the standard set I ordered was 2* up on the 3-7 and the 8-pw were approx 2.5* up. Remember I traded in my X-forged.
They said they do not have anymore sets of the X18 pro's in my condition and I could pay the difference or take a lower grade with a credit. (no other options)
I said I will call back. I called and was going to ask for a manager and this new customer service rep said he would send a call tag and they would bend them and send them back
Should take two weeks or so..............
I just took them to my shop $30.00 done
What a disapointment with this order

FTIW-I just ordered a set of clearance Top Flite Irons from Callaway. (I don't have the bucks you guys have to spend.) A new set of clubs is a new set of clubs to me.
Anyway, It was listed on their site and I ordered. For days it continued to be listed as Backordered. I called customer service and was advised the set would go out by the end of the week.
Another couple of days later pass and my Spaulding's are looking uglier than ever. Customer service advised the clubs are out of stock and no further stock will be coming in. Someone should have called me. I need to cancel my order.
So it went from 3-5 day availability to "ya ain't gettin' em old man"

All I gotta say based on this experience, they suck.
If I had the surplus money, I'd go buy a set of Titleist.

PS look below...I listed my new clubs thinking there would be no problems.

Swing Happy My Friends!

    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
