What Kind of Grips do You Use?

I've got Golf Pride Tour Velvet Grips on most of my clubs, but they're getting really old and it's about time for a change. So what does everyone else use as their grips?

I'm seriously thinking about going with cords this time around. I was using Titleist's V-55 cord on my fairway wood and I like it, but I've heard they're really tough on your hands . . . and I don't wear a glove.

Any input's appreciated.

I don't wear a glove and I'm going with the Titleist V-55 cord. Smooth swingers don't have to worry much - the grip won't be moving around in their hands too much. People who play a lot of punch and swing hard, they worry about 'em.

Besides, chicks dig golf blisters.

P.S. The amount of cording has come down in recent years. 10 years ago, yeah, they could rip you up pretty good. They're a little less abrasive now, I think. It seems that way, no actual proof other than my own memories.

I had played golf pride tour wrap full cords for years but changed this year to winn tan w55 and find them most comfortable.I have not played in the rain with them yet so I might go back to cords if they are not good in rain or heat.I wear a glove so that should help some.

I have tour velvets on my irons, and the Titleist tour velvet with full cord on my 980 3wood. I don't wear a glove and have no problems with either grips. I have a set of Golf Pride V55s waiting for when I get my clubs custom fitted.

I don't wear a glove.  Mid-sized Tour Velvets are my faves.  They are light, for mid-sized grips, and stand up well to repeated, and frequent, washings.  One exception would be my throwing iron...which has a grip made of duct tape and barbed wire.  Not a lot of barbed wire, mind you, but enough to make you think twice.  And it looks cool with the re-bar shaft.

Cord grips are great in the rain - they never slip. All other grips are a challenge when it rains, unless you have a pair of rain gloves. Worst grips in the rain are the kind with the thin membrane on top - Winn grips. Like trying to hold onto a wet eel.

I like Lamkin REL Midsize grips as I have big hands.

Have them on a few set.

I just put on winn dri-tac grips on all my clubs and I love them. I haven't played in the rain with them so I can't comment on that. I have played with glove and without a glove and didn't notice a difference. I put the mid size grips on and I love how soft they are.

Golf  Pride MCC standard on one set. BUT due to RA in hands and wrists, I have TackMac oversize arthritis grips in my main set. Absolutely no way my grip can slip regardless of a very light grip pressure. Great for me. Best, -Marv

I have used a lot of different grips, from Winn, to the GP multi-compound, full cord, etc. I prefer the plain old cheap GP Tour Wraps. They last forever and they are easy to clean if they begin to get slick. I use a glove because my hands sweat profusely, and I have never had to worry about slippage. FWIW multi-compounds and full cords are good, I just don't think they last as long. Winn grips are just garbage IMHO. They lasted about 4 months on my clubs before they showed wear and got slick. In comparison, my Tour Wraps have been on my irons for 4 years with no sign of needing to be replaced.

      Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!

      I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
