I'm sure that this isn't news to you, but you are over the top when hitting the ball - not in the practice swing.

Can you hit a golf ball with your 'new swing'? I can do a couple of things with a practice swing that I really can't execute when hitting a golf ball.

Yep, definitely an over the top move. I've been low 80s recently and upper 70s at my best. I tried the "new" swing on the course yesterday and shot about a 125. I topped and toed everything. The only things that I think about to reproduce the new swing are the following:
1. sole of club flat on ground
2. club in fingers only of left hand
3. lifeline of right hand on left thumb and "squeeze" a blade of grass between the thenar emminance of the right hand and top of left hand
4. stand tall
5. swing 3/4

I am not forcing the club inside, it just happens with the above changes.

Because I am standing "tall" with the new swing and thinking of 5 new swing thoughts that aren't natural for me, I'm not striking the ball consistently (it rained all week, so the only trial of the new swing was on the course--disaster)

However, when I make good contact with the ball (was about 10% of the time yesterday during the round), it is a pure "click" sound that I haven't heard before. The ball flies straight and high when this happens. Need to go to the range some more.

The other thing that I would suggest is to be sure that you know that what you think that you are doing when hitting a ball is what you actually are doing. Big differences between practice swings and 'real swings' that the golfer is unaware of are hardly unusual.

As an additional comment your old swing has a relatively marked chicken wing that is much reduced in the practice swing - another thing to 'verify'.

The two swings in the video are very different, so some adjustment time would seem normal.

Personally, the biggest difference of a practice swing and a one with the ball is that I try to hit the ball and end up releasing too early.

I agree, there is enough chicken wing for a bucket at KFC with the "old" swing. The instructor didn't want me to hit balls with the new swing while on video during the initial eval (for several reasons--you and others have mentioned some of the key ones)
