I am hearing a lot of good talk about the Mizuno irons: MP 57, MP 30, MX 100, 200, 25, etc..

I've never hit any Mizuno irons before. My current irons are Callaway X-14 3-PW that I bought from the Callaway Golf Pre-owned website. I like them a lot, they are easy to hit and forgivable. But I am starting to consider something Mizuno. I've been playing for a year and my handicap index is 28. Will Mizuno irons be suitable for me? And which Mizunos will best suit me??

This is my first thread on this forum, so excuse my newbness.

Mizuno irons are one of if not the best irons out there at the moment. You are receiving forged technology at cast price. This means the metal is never turned into a liquid which allows it to be a ton more consistent than cast irons. Cast irons are created with hundreds of little air bubbles inside the head which can change the hit of the club every time. A good set for you might be the mx 950's or the mx 200's, but the best idea would be go to your golf course and see if they are going to have a mizuno demo day. I would go as soon as possible because our demo days start in about a month.

Yeah, your irons are forgiving. I would keep playing and working on your game, go demo a set and see what you think.

Would've loved to, but the thing, I live in Alexandria, Egypt. Golf isn't a popular sport here at all, my club, the Alexandria Sporting Club, is a social and sporting club that has around 60,000 members, less than only 200 members play golf. So we do not have any of the stuff you guys get to have like demo days and that stuff.

My only chance would be leeching off someone who has Mizuno irons and trying to hit a few shots with his set. Haaha!

As much as I would hate to say this as someone who loves his Mizuno irons I would stay with your Callaways for now. It is just my opinion but I don't think you really get the benefit of Mizuno Forged irons until you start getting down to mid to low 80s or better. Again, just me though. I am a hypocrite on this point in that I started playing Mizuno MP14s.

I sold my beloved Png S-59's at the beginning of this year for a combo set of Mizuno Mp 52s 7-pw and MX200s 4-6, unbelievable irons, hands down the best feeling equipment I have ever hit. The MX200s would be an ideal club for you to look at, my wife is a high handicapper who normally swings a hybrid set, but tried my mx200s out and hit them extremely well. Perhaps you could buy a 7 iron off ebay or ironfinder.com and see how you like it, you can always re-sell it after you have made your decision. Mizuno makes solid, performing equipment, you won't be disappointed.

I agree that mizuno makes a quality iron, however I disagree with your statement about the manufacturing process. The block of steel that is forged into an iron was in liquid form at one time to form that block, and with modern casting methods, there are no "air bubbles", as the temperature of the liquified steel is th high to allow that. There may have been quality problems with cast irons many years ago, but that is just not the case anymore.

I think the Mizuno cult might be worse than the Scotty Cameron cult now. Sheesh...

I just made the switch to Mizuno and it's another world. I got the MX-200s and my son go the MP-52 and we both love what we got. We both went through a great fitting process and were set up with great clubs. I played today and i felt like it was "point and shoot". Piece of cake! Give 'em a try.

I think there's a reason why there's a mizuno and scotty "cult". It's because they're the best of their respective clubs.

Mizuno irons are excellent irons, I love mine... and wouldn't trade them for the world. However given your location, and the clubs you are already using... I would continue to keep using them. Callaway X-14's are very good irons, and you can probably use them well for a long time. Spend the extra money on some lessons, it would probably be of more benefit than some new irons that aren't really that much better than what you already have.

Mizuno's players clubs are amongst the best in the world, but I wouldn't rate their game improvement clubs much better than any of the other leading brands.

Cheers, Allan

How are you liking the shafts with those irons?

Was their a trajectory change? I've been considering the dual muscle iron but can't get zeroed in on a shaft. I want to demo the Nippon shafts but am having trouble finding them anywhere to hit.

Very debatable. To the OP: If you're off 28 I'd stick with what you have unless the X14s are at the end of their life; they're decent irons.
