What is the abolute funniest thing you've witnessed while playing a round of golf?

I saw a guy tee off and hit the ball washer. The ball came screaming back at him, missed him and ended up forty yards behind the tee on another green rolling by some guy's feet while he's putting (it almost went in the hole).

I saw a woman carelessly crash her cart into a lake and her daughter shot thru the window. They both were fine. It was hillarious.

Not while playing a round of golf, but...
When I was in college I worked a summer on the maintenance crew at a CC. One of the kids I worked with was mowing a green, I was mowing an adjacent fairway, he misjudged the dew+slope of the hill between the green and water - and put the mower into the pond. That same kid filled up a diesel mower with regular gasoline. He smoked a lot of pot.

This might not be funny to everyone, but you better believe it was funny to me.

I went to play a round with my friend and we got paired up with two singles. At the time, I wasn't very good at all. I started off the round terribly and that led to me not being able to get my driver in the air. I was topping tee shots and my iron play wasn't much better. One of the guys we ended up getting paired with was a jackass. He didn't really say anything blatantly, but kept making little jabs at my play and apparently when I was teeing up, talked to my friend about what I was doing wrong. He didn't care to share the tips with me though. I mean, I had humility then and I knew that I wasn't very good, but he was just one of those guys, real smug and arrogant and it bugged the hell out of me. He was a pretty good player though. Anyway, we get to the 15th and at this point I'm frustrated as heck because I'm playing terrible golf. He tees up and hits a drive down the center. I'm last to tee up and what do you know? I finally find my swing and smoke a beautiful drive right down the middle. He makes some sort of where was that all day or it's about time comment and I just chuckle and say I don't know. I ended up out-driving him. His next ball, he loses right in the tall grass. My next ball, nice iron shot up around the green. This continued the last three holes. I played +3 golf, which for me was awesome. He continued to play crappy and lost a ball or two in the process. Needless to say, no matter how bad I played that day, those last three holes made my day. Karma's a bitch.

Great story....seen it happen before as well. No fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

Funniest thing I've seen.... Playing at the University Club near Columbia, SC.....serious Gamecock country. 3 of the guys in our group were insane fans...I, of course show up with my schools headcovers, towels, etc. We've beaten them in football before as a severe underdog....great game (for the record...they travelled well and partied nicely bring some real beauties with them...as a student, I was very pleased that the Gamecock girls didn't let a loss rain on their parade...the countries most loyal fans). Anyway we'd been playing 2 man matches for several rounds back home and were fairly matched. We took our game on the road and upped the stakes. The Univeristy Club was the home course of my partner (who clamied single digit hcp but only beat me outright one time...I was playing to a 12 at the time). He couldn't stop talking about the place and then when we arrived he acted as if he was the king and we were his royal subjects. It was funny actually. I simply kept pumping him for course info....green breaks.....pin placement.....conferred on shot advice, etc. The other two guys got peeved by his lordly behavior. We played hard....dueling it out over the 27 hole layout. The course really was in prime condition...a point that I couldn't make to my partner as his head would swell even further. It is an awesome place to golf. He was putting a lot of pressure on me for most of the round....the other two guys were playing "leapfrog" and rattling off pars almost every hole to hook us. We were one up with two holes left and had honors on a tight driving par 4. My partner stands up and announces to all that he was hitting 3 wood for safety and that we'd be best advised to do the same. He makes a big production out of waggling the club, alignment, more waggles....etc. Finally he pulls the trigger and absolutely drills a hard push into one of the pines that was 75 yds ahead and to the right of the tee box. The ball hits the pine flush and bounces directly back...almost to the box. He was still holding his follow through pose when it came back.....in disbelief. The laughter was unreal....we all were smokers (cigarettes or cigars) and sounded like we would die of oxygen depravation after we hacked and laughed so hard. He got pissed off hugely....his empire crumbled. Now I really had pressure on me. I did take his advice and put the ball in play with a 3 iron.....then a 5 wood approach.....chip......2 putts and we lost the hole by one stroke. We did take 'em down on the final hole...no thanks to my partner. He was ruined after his prior tee shot. He was very....very quite on the 90 minute drive home....the other two were yucking it up and ribbing him good. Never did one bad shot live on so much.

Had a buddy fill on a league we were playing a few years back. We were on our second shots on a par 5 and he was just in the right rough. He had to avoid one small tree about 10 feet in front of him, maybe 3 inches in diameter.
Well, of course when he hit his 3 wood, he smacked the tree trunk dead center (mind you, the tree was hardly thicker than the ball).
He didn't even get all the way to his follow through, maybe 3/4, when the ball hit him right in the junk. He dropped like a sack of potatoes. I nearly wet myself laughing. Another regular that I play with was there to see it and it still gets mentioned everytime the 3 of us play together.

I was playing with a guy in my old golf league. We were playing a par 3 near a maintenance road on the course. Just as this guy was hitting, a dump truck pulled away down the maintenance road. He hooked his tee shot, and it landed in the back of the dump truck!

The look on his face was just precious, as his ball drove away...

I think his ball is still going....

When I first started playing I was out on a Muni with my friend and his dad. There was a fourth, but I forget who it was. Anyway, I was horrible and flaunted it! I teed up, smacked a drive....right into the hole marker! The ball flew back between my friend and his dad to hit the railroad wood railing of the blue tee box. From there it once again changed direction and flew between me and the fourth! That ball had some smoke on it as it rolled half way down the fairway...in the middle! That was my first Fairway in Regs! lol

My parents had just divorced and I was golfing with my father and his "date". She was a barfly he had picked up the night before and needless to say, I wasn't appreciating the fact that she was there.

She was riding in my Dad's cart but was reading a book and obviously didn't want to be there. A real drag.

On the 2nd hole, we parked the carts and walked back to the tee box. My father tee'd off and hit the cart she was sitting in. The ball came back at us and was now further from the hole.

She about had a heart attack and walked off of the course.

Oh! I got another good one.
Golfing at Gull Lake, kind of a weekend getaway for a few of us.
Guy riding with me had a rough night, not feeling too well. He fell asleep in the cart on like the third hole for that morning's round. Before he did, he said he was just going to sit and not play a few holes. We played about four holes before he woke up. The whole time he's bouncing around in the cart, head bobbing back and forth, not sure how I didn't dump him.
We called it "Golfing with Bernie".

sorry, not golf...bowling.

4 of us were leaving the office to go bowling. The new guy, in the office, who was way too friendly invited himself as a 5th and then proceded to say he needed to ride with us because he might have a beer. So we're all kind of annoyed at this point. As we are driving away from the office, he tells us he needs to stop by his house and grab his gear. More annoyance, but it wasn't too far. We get to the lane, and 4 of us are putting n our rental shoes, while this guy open his bag and has shoes, a glove a rosin bag he was getting a dusty everywhere. Dude, has been talking like he's got game, and by the looks of it is going to own us. Well he's ready to go, and we tell him to go first. BIg preshot routine, steps up with good form, and is hauling off like this is goning to be a bomb. He came in way too fast and his left foot passed the foul line. he hit a freshly waxed lane, slipped and was laid out horizontal 3.5 feet in the air. The ball went verticle about 10 feet, smashed into the ball return 2 lanes over, completely destroying it. he landed on his back 8 feet out in the lane. We couldn't stop laughing for 20 minutes. to this day that is the funniest thing I've ever seen.

Playing with my usual group and one of the guys hit a ball up near a wood rail fence about 3 or 4 inches from the post. Not like his swing will hit the post or anything but you know how that can get in your head. Well the fence runs about 5 yards off the road/street that leads to the clubhouse. Just as my friend is hitting the ball a gentlemen in a big Buick drives down the road. My friend thins the ball and it starts heading for the car, we're sure it will break out the back window. The ball must of had topspin because it dips down and hits the road but it bounces up under the car. As the car is moving forward the ball is bouncing off the road, off the bottom of the car, off the road, off the car. I can only imagine what it sounded like inside the car!!!!

My friend was so embarassed, but the rest of us had quite a laugh. The gentlemen was gracious and didn't give us any grief.

I got a couple...

Golf course community, buddy tees off and pushes one way right, crash, bay window shattered. We all wait to see if anyone comes out. No one does. I turn to my buddy and ask what are you going to do? His answer, "I'm going to tee up another one"...

Playing at my local course following a foursome. One of them has one of the remote controlled walking carts... He goes up to the tee box to tee off and suddenly his cart starts rolling on it's own. Straight into a pond! Never did find out if he had pocketed the remote or something that caused it run but it looked like R2D2 as it decended into the pond.

Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to...

Five minutes prior to one of our Sunday foursome’s 8:10 AM tee-time, my friend shows up with his obligatory breakfast burrito and hangover. I had asked him to get me a burrito too since I was picking up the cost of the cart. While we’re standing on the tee box, drivers in hand, he recounts last night’s Falstaffian adventure.
I asked him, “Dude, where’s my burrito?”
He replied, “It’s in the cooler in the cart”
I look over his shoulder in the direction of the cart where there are five fox squirrels ripping his neoprene cooler and my breakfast burrito to shreds. As he makes a mad dash to the cart he trips over the blue tee marker, falls mid-shaft on his driver, and splinters it in two. His half eaten burrito spills from his hand to the ground at which point the squirrels descend and devour that one as well.

I didn't witness this, but a very honest, reliable friend did. He and his buddies were about to tee off on the 4th hole (par four) early in the morning (they had 0630 tee time), when they heard yelling and pounding on a door behind them. They looked behind them and a vey nice looking lady had locked herself outside in the back yard. She had taken her little dog outside for the dog to do it's morning thing. She was completely naked, pounding on the glass/screen door. Her husband/boyfriend opened up the door and let her in (the glass door had self-locked when she closed it behind her)

we were playing behind a slow group many years ago and when we were close to the group they said we can play through, we were so excited that we drove ourt cart too fast, lost control and ran into a small tree.

    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
    • He shot -5 with a bogey on the last hole. Those Monday Q events are seriously tough to get through. Lots of very very good players play in those, including normally a fair few tour players who've lost their cards, including past winners. It is a small sample size, but he also just broke one of Tiger's records (youngest ever to be ranked one in AJGA if memory serves). He's the best 15 year old in the world at the moment. He's also pretty small and skinny - if he grows and fills out a bit and gets stronger, he could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He may of course also go off the boil and struggle or his swing may not last his growth or something, so it's not like he's odds on to make it or anything like that. I think it will be interesting to see how he progresses and if (big if granted) he progresses well, then he will be quite the prospect.
    • At a basic level, you can take those strokes gained numbers and if you know what the baseline strokes to hole out is from each distance, you can figure out how many strokes on average you will take to hole out from any given spot on the golf course. Then you can take that shot zone thing from shotscope and put it down there and see what the average is for each club and each target you choose. That's not exactly trivial to do though even with a computer, so the strategy guides (like LSW) use rules of thumb to make those decisions easier for you to make on the fly. Most of the time you'll come up with the optimal strategy and on the odd occasion when you don't, the strategy you come up with will be pretty darn close to optimal. If you're anything like me, then you'll probably wind up being a little too conservative with both club choice and target. Fear of penalty strokes can make you play suboptimally. Basically it's a bad idea to base your strategy on a shot that might pop up less than 1 in 20 times. If you happen to hit that shot, then today just isn't your day, but the 19 times you don't, you'll be in that much better of a spot.
