Seriously? What more does he need to do? Swing the club for them?
Why does he need to do anything at all? Nice entitlement attitude. Give me a break.

No matter how much some people get, they still think they deserve more.

Tiger does a lot of work for minority golfers and young golfers across the board. Simply by being the best at his sport, a decent guy and an all-round class act, he is an inspiration to all of us...what ever color.

One idiot on a mini-tour says this - don't give it much attention, I'm sure Tiger didn't.

It was allegedly one guy, not "black golfers", so the thread is misleading.

Who was it and what exactly did he say? Just interested in whether he said "how" Tiger was to do this, whether he actually said what you interpreted or whether he was just whining (which would be completely inappropriate given there wouldn't be much of a mini tour to play on sans Tiger's arrival).

Couldn't Asian golfers say the same thing about him? As far as I'm concerned, he does enough. Either way it's his business what he does.

Precisely. He isn't exactly "black" to being with and secondly, he has done more for the sport then any other player in this era.

What an idiot would say he needs to do more for black players?

Every time a minority is in the news and is a national/global role model for everyone, others begin to say that they need to be helped as well. This happens when people win the lottery as well, you get cousins/uncles/aunts that come out of the woodwork and say they are family. I'm sure this has happened with Obama being president as well. It is just a way to make someone feel bad just because they are in the spotlight.

Sure you want to go down this overgeneralized, semi-racist road?

I think Tiger does plenty and it's really all he can do.

It's really the game of golf that prevents a lot of black children from being more involved with the sport. I don't think there are too many inner city black kids that grow up wanting to play golf and those who do have those dreams, just simply cannot pursue them for financial reasons. That's why you see the NBA dominated by black players. Basketball is a sport where all you need is a ball and a hoop. It's not an expensive sport and there are tons of basketball courts in the inner city.

why are you assuming that the black people they are referring to live in the inner city?

I don't believe I am going down that road. Do you see people telling Phil/Freddie/Kenny to donate more and to help out more in the community? No you don't because people make it a big deal that a black/asian golfer is a phenom rather than it being a white person. Some of the media and those around the media treat this world like we are still separated based on color, intellect, or where you sit on the bus. I think it is stereotypical to blame a minority for never helping out enough more than it is to blame a white person for not giving enough. Maybe you think I am going down that road, but in my mind I am putting myself out there to say what others do not want to because they feel like they are close to that line.

I think Tiger has done plenty to help minority golfers and expose them to the game, as well as millions of young golfers taking up the game because it's now "cool" if you will. My oldest son plays junior golf and there are plenty minority youths that can shoot lights out.

IMO, Tiger does plenty and you could almost say that he does more than should be expected of him.

There was a juniors expo today at the golf store I frequent near Atlanta. The place was full of children and families, and I want to say that a good 25-30 percent of the young people in attendance were black. How many of those kids would have been there if not for the fact that they have had Tiger as an idol and role model for their entire lives? I see black people on the golf course virtually every time I play; I've been the only white guy in a foursome on more than one occasion. Because of Tiger Woods, many more African-Americans play golf now than 10-15 years, and I'd say that fact is indisputable.

As for why there aren't more African-Americans and other minorities on tour, the real problem is one of money. Golf is an expensive sport, especially if you are playing every day, and only a few hundred of the millions of golfers in this country are good enough to make a living off of it. Golf is like tennis or motorsports in that it becomes progressively more costly to make one's way up the various steps of the competitive ladder, and most of those costs come out of pocket until one reaches the very top. The Williams sisters and James Blake have achieved a lot on the tennis court, but while their successes have caused many more African-Americans to pick up the game, there has not been an influx of black players on the professional circuit. Willy T. Ribbs won many IMSA and SCCA sports car races in the 1980s and '90s, and James "Bubba" Stewart is the current standard-bearer in motocross, but they did not and have not instigated a rise of black competiors in the top levels of auto and motorcycle racing.

And it's not just too expensive for a lot of black people; it's too expensive for a lot of people in general, regardless of ethnicity. Did Lee Trevino and Nancy Lopez begat an era of Mexican-American golfers dominating the PGA and LPGA tours from the late 1970s on? Did John Daly spark a white-trash revolution in the game beyond your local munis? No. The reason golf gets a hoidy-toidy reputation is because generally, only pretty well-off players can afford to make it professionally in the first place.
