I have seen the light and decided to spend more time on the practice green and a little less time on the range this year.

My question is do most courses care if you show up and practice on their practice green without playing that day?

At school, i usually go in and ask the person working the counter if it is ok and they have never had a problem.

But at home the courses are nicer and the rules are stricter so i am not sure how they will react. I want to know if your muni courses care if you practice but don't play that day?

I have never had a problem, or heard of one. I frequent 3 courses over the past 6 months, and have never payed to putt. All 3 course post fees for the chipping range, so i figure no posted fees, means no charge.

In my bag are

Hibore XLS 22* 3i Hybrid
TA7 irons 3-PW, SW
CG11 60* LW VP #5 putter.

just go and start putting, if someone ask then worry about it. If you just show up and start practicing it will just look like you are warming up before a round.

I've spent hours chipping and putting at my local muni (Woodley Lakes) without ever doing anything at the range or the course. I didn't even buy refreshments there!

Saddleback College, not too far from you, has a free chipping area. It's not large, but it's there and free, on both the north and south ranges. The north range also has a practice bunker, but I suggest using range balls in it. It doubles as a practice fairway bunker. Unfortunately, that's only open to the public on weekends.

Never known a public course to have an issue with practicing on any of the practice areas, putting or chipping. Private courses generally do not allow it, and semi-private courses may or may not. Keep in mind that some courses allow chipping on the putting green, but many do not, so don't get in trouble for that.

The semi-private that I grew up with as my home course didn't care...I could/and did, show up in a t-shirt and shorts and practiced and never had a problem.

I have seen that posted on practice greens a couple of times.

Most of the time if you take your whole bag and set it down next to the green, no one will ever question if you are practicing or warming up to play. I used to do it all the time.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.
