LOL, I was just readong Jason Sobels' rankings on ESPN for the Masters and here is how Sergio has finished the last 4 years:

MC-MC-T42-MC

Best finish was T4 in 2004. I guess I'll waste the stamp, but I might as well throw 42 cents in garbage.

Sergio's putting has always been his weakest link and that doesn't fly at Augusta. He won't win this year and I don't think we'll see him win the Masters anytime soon.

Chance of winning? 1 in 1,000... 1 in 10,000... more like 1 in 1,000,000...

I wonder if Golfsmith took out an insurance policy against Sergio winning. Given his odds of winning it would probably be pretty cheap. They will definitely get a few people to buy the driver from them rather than someone else, on the chance they get it for free, and there is also just getting people into the store and swinging clubs, which usually results in some sales, even if it is balls, tees, and gloves.

I'm sure it boosted TM driver sales for GS, though. I'll admit it spent my 5 minutes and 42 cents on it, just incase.

They can read the stats too... why pay for something that's entirely unnecessary? It's a promotion gimmick with no downside. I'd say that the odds are good that TM was in on the offer too.... I doubt that Golfsmith would take the entire load in case the miracle did happen. TM and Golfsmith will make out like thieves in this deal.

Okay, lets see - 1 : 100000 odds - 1mio in sales to insure - 100% premium for the insurer = 20 bucks.

Yeah, i guess they took out the insurance

Here in LA a couple years ago, a furniture store made an offer that if UCLA football beat USC, anyone who bought $2000 or more worth of furniture before the game started got their order for free. Apparently they did it without insurance, and UCLA pulled off the big upset. I'd say the odds of Sergio winning are substantially lower, so I'll vote for no insurance too.

Btw, here's a link about the furniture deal: http://cbs2.com/sports/USC.UCLA.Football.2.525180.html

So what happens if you buy the driver, don't hit it, and he loses. Can you return it on Monday and get your money back?

It never hurts to stay hopeful. The way sergio is playing makes it doubtful but I would love to get a new club! It would be fun to see him win a major too. He's not the top of my list but this driver deal pushes him pretty close.
