4. North Carolina
5. Minnesota (had to throw a northern state in )

I've played a lot of golf in Florida but for its size it doesn't have many great courses. Little old Rhode Island has half a dozen courses better than anything FLA can offer other than maybe Seminole.

think you might have to throw Arizona in the running.

From a ex-pat limey standpoint the entire U.S. is a pretty much a great golf state.

I've never played golf outside of California, so this is based solely on what I feel based on my limited knowledge.

California
Florida
Georgia
Michigan

I have only played golf in 3 states, but there is no way you can not include South Carolina. Hilton Head and Myrtle beach alone have more nice golf courses by theirselves than most states. I would think Arizona and California would be up there too. Georgia, minus Augusta, is pretty good but not outstanding.

I've only played in WV, KY, NC, SC, IN and OH, but I do think Ohio should at least be in the conversation since Columbus, OH was listed as the 2nd Best Golf City a year or so ago by one of the golf magazines. Of course we can only golf about 9-10 months, but there are a lot of great courses in Ohio.

Depending on how you define best states....ie access to privates.
1] New York
2] New Jersey
3] Penn
4] Calli
5] toss up of many
Ratings of best courses has 6 of top 10 in NY,NJ, PA ....Now FL has a great many dogtracks as does TX. But the cream of the crop is Westchester area, Philly area, Long Island and Monterey.

Florida

I'd agree with this, but I'd move AZ to the top, before or after FL, you could convince me of either.

If you're going to vacation for golf, I would think you want to do Myrtle Beach or PGA West, Palm Springs. South Carolina or California. There is an island in Georgia called Jekyll Island that you should check out too. Amazing place.

I love to hate this damn game.

Seminole? what course are you referring to? I dont know of ANY good courses in Seminole and i live 20 minutes away from there. Im surprised AZ isnt on that list. Where did this list come from?

For the average golfer, who can't afford more than $100 per round
Texas
Utah
Colorado
Alabama
New Mexico

For folks that can afford it all
Hawaii
Arizona
California
New Jersey
New York
Oregon

There are so many great states to play golf. For me, it matters more who I play with than the course I'm playing. I could play a round on Pebble with some ff and have a terrible time. I could play any goat ranch dog track with my best mates and have the time of my life.

I think in order for a state to be a great golf state you should be able to tee it up 12 months a year. Sorry, but even though I have played several fantastic courses in Michigan and a few others in the midwest, having to put the clubs in a closet for 4 month to me means its not a great place for golf.

I also put my home state on here as I believe we offer a lot in the way of affordable nice golf courses. Some of the golf courses in the Albuquerque area are as nice as anywhere. You can play a desert course in the morning, finish drive 45 minutes and play a mountain course in the afternoon. Not a lot of places where you can do that.

I gave Hawaii a vote for "those that can afford it all"

New Mexico, Utah, and parts of Arizona---you ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon. In Cedar City, Utah area, you can do that all ski season. Outstanding.

I suppose you can also do this in Vegas area (the mountain there isn't all that great)

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
