I like to keep score pretty much all rounds, exception of a few.. But Im thinking maybe to give it a little bit of a twist, like putting down hitting the fairways on regulation, putts, ect. in all the other boxes that are unused. Later on maybe keeping track of it on somesort of chart I can make on excell or just buy one. What sorts of things do you put down on your card?

In my Tour Bag:

Cobra Amp Cell Irons 4i-pw
Vokey Wedges, 52,56,60

Scotty Cameron Putter

I have been tracking score, FIR, GIR and putts on my scorecard for several years now. I keep the scorecards and enter the data in my handicap tracking service on golf.com. BTW: oobgolf.com also has a nice service for tracking scores and stats and it's free (or they have a new service with more features that cost something like $12 a year).

I keep all of my stats in the score box along with the score. I mark a FIR with a single dot in the upper left and corner of the score box; GIR is a small 'x' in the bottom left; putts is a small number in upper right; and score is obviously a bigger number in the middle of the box. I also usually track lost balls and penalties by putting one of the following in the lower right corner as the apply: L = lost ball; O = out-of-bounds; P = penalty.

I have found tracking my stats helps in 2 ways - first, it forces me to concentrate on shots and trying to hit FIRs, GIRs and fewer putts; second, it's a great way to assess your rounds as well as strengths and weaknesses.

I have just started to track GIR, FIR and putts. It really is pretty eye-opening to see how these impact your score. I need to get those putts down for sure. I have been working so hard on getting my swing square but you still won't score if you can't putt.

I do this as well. It is a very good guide as to what needs work in your game. I keep up with FIR, GIR, Putts, and dropped shots. The more you keep up with, the more you can see the where the lost strokes are going. My cousin said this weekend, "My ball striking is good and I don't drop any shots so I can't see why my scoring isn't better." Just by looking at his game from my point of view, it is his putting and getting up and down when he miss GIR. But I told him to start keeping track of everything on his scorecard. That will tell him what he wants to know.

I keep track of GIR by circling the hole number, fairways by putting a check under my score, and putts by writing the number under fairways. I also keep track of left or right when I miss fairways. Scorecard keeps track of all of this. I tried making something in Excel, but I got a bit lazy. However, it's pretty easy to do.

there are plenty of applications out there, some free/some not, that would help you track all of that. for us iphone users, i use the mobile tracking on my phone and it posts to a website for me to track my FIRs, GIRs, handicap, putting, sand saves, etc. if not, previous posters have posted good ideas to mark your scorecard so you can input that info later. i would also track putts as well.

I use Golf Card on the iPhone which uploads to oobgolf.com. It makes it a nice easy to keep track while on the course, all you had to do when you get home is check out what you've done as there is no more score entry.

I use oobgolf.com to track and on my scorecard keep of fairways, putts, penalty and sand strokes. No reason to mark GIRs IMO since you can see if you had a GIR based on the par for the hole and the number of putts.

I do the same as most of the above posts...

I also like to throw on there the distance of the putt I made. Not the best way to gauge it I'm sure, but it's always interesting to see how many feet of putts I made, whether they were all tap-ins, or if I actually made some long putts, etc.

I use intelligolf and a gps. Intelligolf allows you to track as much or little of your game that you like -- just score and/or putts or every shot, its distance, where placed, etc. I gives you stats on the round, etc. They have a database of courses or you can enter your own data.

It runs on most PDAs and many cell phones ( not iPhone). There is a PC version.

I have been using it for 4 or so years. I really like it. Good support, too. Cost about $50.

I also use "oobgolf" since its free. I usually have my friend keep score for both of us and I keep a separate scorecard for my stats.

Fairway - Hit or Miss(Topped/Slice/Hook/Skyball/OB)
Penalty Strokes
Sand Saves
Putts - #

    • Day 85 - Played 9. Driver was solid, approach shots were pushed, chipping/pitching was better, putting was rough.
    • Day 514, March 28, 2024 Quick ten minutes while waiting for the wife to come home for our trip.
    • Day 262: did a stack session. Worked on rehearsal swings during rest breaks.
    • It's been a little more than a year since I can last remember hitting golf balls and today I just got my second cortisone injection in 11 months. I thought maybe shortly after the first injection I was going to be able to start playing again with therapy but the pain while doing my backswing past halfway just didn't subside like just lifting my hands up in the air did. So today the Orthopedic surgeon put more in the backside of the shoulder than before to address the tendon more. I'm going to try therapy for another 3 months and if I  can't swing the club without pain then I think surgery is going to be my next option.
    • I was just down visiting family in southern California and we played a couple rounds of golf. I hit my ball into the deep rough near some tree's and my cousin's husband offered me his Sim 2 Rescue Hybrid to try out. And I felt the same way, wow! I loved it, it also had a Pure DTX grip on it which I loved. As soon as I got back home, I ended up buying two used Calloway Rogue X hybrids, 3 and 5. So far I've only tested them out at the range, but I love them. They're much more forgiving than irons for me.
