my friend wanted to know if he was allowed to put with his foot.... don't ask why he was to do so but we couldn't find any rule against intentionally kicking the ball. anyone have factual evidence(references)?

Of course it is not allowed and no I never touch the ball with anything but my clubs and hands.

Rule 18. Ball at rest moved 18-2. By Player, Partner, Caddie or Equipment a. General When a player's ball is in play, if: (i) the player, his partner or either of their caddies lifts or moves it, touches it purposely (except with a club in the act of addressing it) or causes it to move except as permitted by a Rule, or (ii) equipment of the player or his partner causes the ball to move, the player incurs a penalty of one stroke. If the ball is moved, it must be replaced, unless the movement of the ball occurs after the player has begun the stroke or the backward movement of the club for the stroke and the stroke is made.

What a ridiculous question. You may as well ask if it is against the rules to place an electric toaster between your opponent's ball and the hole. Can't find a rule specifically prohibting it..............

According to rule 14-1 the ball must be struck with the head of the club, 14-3 covers unusual use of equipment.

14-1. Ball to Be Fairly Struck At
The ball must be fairly struck at with the head of the club and must not be pushed, scraped or spooned.
14-3. Artificial Devices, Unusual Equipment and Unusual Use of Equipment
... Except as provided in the Rules, during a stipulated round the player must not use any artificial device or unusual equipment, or use any equipment in an unusual manner: ...

like i said, it wasn't my question. he was asking yesterday and we couldn't find any ruling on it...

i'm sure he was messing around when he asked. it came up when he kicked the ball in from 30 ft on a practice putting green. i told him that he wasn't allowed to but couldn't find the actual rule to prove it. thanks for those who answered the question... hey shorty.... grow up... toaster oven? really.... wow...
Keep an eye on him, if he lands in the rough he probably punts his ball back to the fair and not take a stroke.

he doesn't cheat. he's just goofy like that. like a 15yr old stuck in a 24yr old's body... he thinks he's able to put better w/ his foot...

I though that you might have got the idea that both ideas, the toaster and the foot, are equally ridiculous. Why even ask the question? Did you expect someone to say 'Yes, it's fine to kick your ball if you don't want to use a club"?

Your post reminded me of a TV program where someone was saying that there was nothing in the instructions to say that you shouldn't but a piece of toast in a VHS recorder. I know that you say that your friend raised the point. Why wasn't your answer "Of course you can't you *&^%$#." Instead, you think "Hey....maybe you can.......there has to be a specific rule...."

lol funny question. i've been a soccer player my whole life and was pretty successful with my career until i gave the dream up. but sometimes when were out on the green and i completely blow a putt, everyone says i shoulda just kicked it instead....so ill throw another ball down for laughs and try it.

but im sure he was just saying it for fun. but really, if he wants to kick his ball instead of putt it, mine as well let him lol. its a friendly game of golf between two buddies not a competitive match. however, if money is involved in the situation, then u should definately make sure to throw the rule book at him....unless he really sucks at kicking it, then mine as well let him do it then too. advantage you haha

Take a pill there smokestack. You don't need to flex your Internet muscles.

no. i'm 26. sorry if i offend you but i don't really have that high of patience for people who need to think before they type.

i don't get why he is talking all this smack and directing it to me. is it my fault my friend wanted the actual rule? yea, my friend's question is kind of ridiculous to ask but i think he deserves the answer he wants. so thats why i asked cause i thought there were people in here that would respect that right and give me a straight answer. but of course the occasional douche gives his smart ass answer, i think i have a right to blow up on him.

Sometimes we hold our clubs like snooker sticks and hole the ball like playing snooker. Now THAT is not against any rules.

don't take it personally, man. You could expect to get razzed a little for a question like that, even though it was obviously in good fun. Just roll with it.

YES IT IS...

You MUST strike the ball with the head of the club (if you're hitting it with the grip end). (If it's with the club head) - You also must strike the ball with a swing, not a push.
