Driver Shaft Question

I have a 10.5 Degree Cleveland Launcher. Old School I know. The shaft on it is just regular. I have a natural draw to my shots with my swing. With irons I am very good at controlling it. With driver not so much. When I hit it perfect I have a nice little baby draw, but sometimes i block it to the right. Total mishits I snap hook it. Do you guys think I need a stiff shaft on my driver???? My swing isn't particulary fast. I swing pretty easy. Would a stiff shaft increase my accuracy with the driver???

The correct shaft may well help your accuracy. As to which flex that is, it's hard to tell, though. It could be that you need a stiffer shaft or it could be that a shaft with a different torque and/or kick point could be all it takes. I remember reading something a few years ago about Hot Sticks (the professional fitting company based out of Scottsdale, AZ) where they almost always recommend stiffer shafts for driver than with irons. Shaft flex is not always about swing speed but more about your swing tempo and angle of attack. The best thing you can do it get a fitting from a professional fitter (if possible in your area) or at least go somewhere and demo some drivers (as similar to your current as possible unless you intend to buy new/different driver) with some different shafts. Do you not assume that a S Flex shaft is the same across all manufacturers or even models, though. Since there is basically no industry standard the difference can sometimes be huge (the torque and kick point can also affect how stiff the flex 'feels').

I just changed my driver from a 9* stiff with a LOW Kick back to a 10.5* reg with a MEDIUM Kick, I hit quite a high ball and I thought that going to 10.5 would not help matters, but the mid kick instead of a low kick gives me a very nice low/medium trajectory with a lot more distance on my drives, when I'm playing well I now average around 260yds, with the old driver I was around 230.

      I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

      Is This Club Blatantly Sandbagging?

      A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
