Good Practice Drills for Irons

I'm looking for some good drills to use for working on your irons. Drills that emphasize accuracy and distance would be great. I feel that I need drills to work on my iron game so I'm looking to you guys for iron game suggestions.

It depends on what you are trying to work on , i used to have a bad over the top problem which was giving me a bad slice so to stop myself from coming over the top i put my driver headcover (not on the club of course) next to and slightly back from the ball that way if i come over the top i will hit it. Start off with 1/2 then 3/4 swings concentrating on the wrist turn untill you get used to it then move on to full swings. It has worked wonders for my irons... now all i need to do is sort the driver out. Hope it helps.

You can also use a part filled plastic water bottle in place of the driver cover if your worried about damaging it , but when you hit it it makes a big noise...

I have actually improved my driver when I practice my wedges shots of 20 - 30 yards.

I like to practice with my wedges to get a better iron game. I focus on making solid contact and for me that is concentrating on my take away on my pitch shots which is a mini swing and your working on the impact zone.

The pro at my club told me the same thing during my lessons last year. And i've worked on it since. Its an awesome way to practice connecting the ball correctly.

Not so much of a drill as it is common sense but i am trying to turn my irons into pin seekers this year. Things i have been working on have been makings sure i swing down my body line. This elimnates the little bit of rightward movement i get sometimes. Also hitting down at the back of the ball and having a divot from where the ball was foreward. This puts the spin on the ball and keeps from thinning the shot. This has helped me a decent amount. Sometimes you have to go back to basics.

I work very hard on making sure I rotate the forearms through impact. Also as posted earlier, making sure your swing path is inside and not over the top helps me the most. This is one area I will work on the most during this year.

      Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
