Once again, the LPGA is having a tournament with NO TV coverage. Six of the top 10 are competing including Lorena, Paula (who still suffers from a mysterious stomach ailment---she has had it since last fall!), Suzann Pettersen, etc. Lorena leads at 8 under (no surprise there), and Michelle Wie is right behind her at minus 7! Paula is one under, and one of the Old Guard, Juli Inkster is at minus 2.

Wouldnt surprise me if they cancel the 2010 season for the LPGA. There is no money in it.

Hell they televise paintball tournaments and bowling. If that doesnt tell you something about the LPGA, I dont know what will.

You are right. The people, like me, who like the LPGA, are very loyal, but we are a very small group, apparently.

Even the venerable Corning Classic is going away.

After 31 years!! And some great Champions have won there:

1983 Patty Sheehan; 1984 Joanne Carner; 1990 Pat Bradley; 1994 Beth Daniel; 2000 Betsy King; 2002 Laura Diaz (who is from Upstate New York--Scotia, near Albany); 2003 Juli Inkster ; 2004 Annika Here is how the event got started: "In 1977, Bill Griffiths believed a Ladies Professional Golf tournament offered a way to assist the Corning Country Club’s revenue and membership opportunities, while at the same time raising funds for area hospitals. He presented his idea that year to the club’s board of directors which included Corning Glass Works executives Van Campbell and George Douglas. They thought enough of Bill’s idea to put it before Corning Incorporated top management group. The company bought into it enthusiastically, and tapped Douglas to be the event’s first general chairman. Campbell Rutledge, Jr., then a recently retired vice president of sales and public relations was assigned the marketing, sales and promotion responsibilities. Thus, the LPGA Corning Classic born." Now that Corning is having financial difficulties, sponsorship of a golf tournament is out of the question. Sound familiar in this severe recession?

Maybe the Golf Channel didn't want their employees going there and risk getting the flu.

Boy, it is a battle between Lorena (20 under) and Suzann Pettersen (19 under). Michelle has faded away (little golf lingo there), and is 10 under. What is wrong with Paula? She shot a 76 today!

I hope that doesnt happen, im one of those people and i dont know why more dont enjoy watching beautiful women playing golf (even though there may be a small amount on tour).. id rather watch LPGA golf over Champions, Nationwide and euro (minus the big events) anyday. What a downer.

Hahaha... in Morelia the flu is not a big issue right now and it started in Friday, as I said I've just arrived home and in here people is really scared in here it's really serious... my classes are suspended until May the 6th.

You are so right. I enjoy playing with good women golfers, and I attend as many LPGA tournaments as I can. After this year, I will not be able to go to Corning since they have announced this is the last year, after 31 years of Corning hosting the tournament. It is a real shame to LPGA fans in Upstate New York and northern Pennslyvania.

I know they can play, but it just doesn't hold my interest. And let's be honest, they're not all hot either.

I am jealous of you. Today, Lorena and Suzann really battled it out, with both shooting 68's, so that the Mex won by one shot! Talk about excitement!

It would be a shame for the LPGA to go away. There's a x-LPGA member who's started giving lessons at my local course and I must say THAT GIRL can play. More than one "macho" man has been given a "schooling".

Paula has had a stomach virus for months now...

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
