haha. heard this in a movie and decided to go out to el dorado and drive heroicly through, under, and over the trees on every tee shot looking for football sized holes in which to hit through.

its amazing how much worse you play with a few bad shots rather than a bunch of ok ones.

think it should be more like 3 bad shots and one great/perfect shot make par

One good shot to make a par, two good shots to make a birdie... one bad shot to make a double or worse. Golf is a game if misses. It is never about how good your good shots are, it's about how good your bad shots are. Make your bad shots not so bad, you can play this game.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

I'm starting to see this show up in my game as I improve-last few years, my bad shots would put me in jail, a hazard, or OB. Now I've gotten to the point where my bad shots are jerking it 10 yards left of where I wanted to be, missing the green from 150 out. A thin or fat iron still goes the right direction, just losing distance. My bad drives are putting me in the rough instead of the woods, and my bad putts are leaving me with 2 footers coming back instead of 5 footers. And its helped me cut my handicap in half from August of last year until now.

Making your bad shots not so bad will help drop a handicap like a bad habit. This puts a premium on course management and decision making. I have a friend that has been struggling the last few years with scoring. His swing is not the best, but good enough to play around par. He was barely breaking 80. Over the last few months when we played and after he would hit a horrible shot because of a bad decision, I would explain how he had other shot options and what shot might have been better. It has taken a while, but he is starting to get it. Last few times he played he shot even par or better. It was not because he hit the ball great, but he made great decisions that gave him the opportunity to make birdie and pars, instead of his normal begging for pars and bogeys.

You don't have to swing great to play this game. You have to learn to use what skill you do have to give you the best opportunities lower your scores.

Your talking about the Legend of Bagger Vance, correct?
It's not that he had a couple of crappy shots on every hole then one good one. But when he did have a crappy shot, he would follow it up with a good (more like great) one.

Don't they say it when he is on the beach on 18?
