I can't believe it....I finally got in my fifth round in...and I can finally was able to calculate my handicap. Well actually, golflink calculated it for me.

My index is 26.1

I think that's pretty good, considering that I have been playing for only 4 or 5 months!!!!

I was thinking it was going to be much higher, but I do have to say that I have made considerable improvements though, my last 5 round scores were 146, 126, 113, 106, 101. Last two rounds I went to break 100...getting there!

On the 106 round, I killed my self on the last 3 holes 9/4, 5/3, 10/5 (Score/Par)..That was the effect of the wife telling me it was taking too long!!!!

Man I love this game!!!!

It's the indian, not the arrow! But it sure is nice to have good arrows!!!!!

With exception of your first two rounds, those last 3 were similar to most of my rounds last year. Heading into my 2nd year (1st round will be this Monday), I am hoping I can improve on those and establish my own HC Index.

Ah.....golf and marriage.....such a delicate balance....must step carefully here or there will be no handicap!!!!!

Glad you have picked up the game and are making very steady progress....looks like you've shaved off huge chunks.

It's a great game.....greatest game ever.....only game I can think of were us mortals can go out and hit at least a couple of "pro" worthy shots in a round....at least can a few miraculous putts.....stiff a wedge tight to the pin, etc.

It certainly is addictive.

Congratulations! I still have yet to produce a handicap since I'm still working on grooving my swing and haven't had time to play rounds due to a job transition.

What would you say you have to work on next in order to low your handicap further?

Considering my performance on the range my problems to work on are as follows:
* Improve swing consistency from 7-iron up to woods
* Stop slicing with the driver
* Learn proper bunker shot techniques

Though my bunker play needs work, I can do well with approach shots under 125 yards with my wedges and short irons. But from the 7-iron up I still need some work, as I have problems with fat shots and shanks (swing going too far in to out).

My putting seems OK. I have a decent putter I'm comfortable with and a consistent swing, and don't seem to mess up too many putts under 3 feet.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

Congrats man!! It is a great feeling when you see that index go down. I just got mine down into the 14's since being in the 16's forever. Because I play mainly on our 9-hole (because I only pay $5 per day because my daughter works there), and dont use those scores, (I only use my 18 hole scores) I dont get to calculate my score but 'bout twice a year. Anyway, keep it up, it looks like you are making wonderful progress!!

I finally started keeping track of my scores this year, and my handicap is said to be 17.1. I've played at 5 different course, and have yet to break 90 this year, but it says my handicap is 17.1 Does this sound right?

Squad a few things worked for me.

I concentrated ar first on the driver. I have always been good with the driver. I usually drive in the 250 range, my longest being 281. My problem here was a mean slice...I have hit the driver aiming left, and landed on the far right side on the link next to mine. I started working on my grip. 1) Proper grip is crucial and 2) loosening my grip. I have/had (still working on it) a very strong grip while driving, which was shoving my balls far right. I had good distance, but no control. I then a single clas to help with my fundamentals, the only thing i learned was to keep my head up. I was like Barkley, without the pause! Now I dip very little. I started practicing swing mechanics, ensuring proper posture at each step of the swing. What also helped alot while driving was the understanding of a full swing. In other words opening my arms up on the back swing, and making sure my left elbow pulls my body through. This and the grip has helped my control the ball better. My last round i played 14 holes with the same ball....Htat was a huge accomplishment. (On Saturday I lost 6 ). And finally I have put most my effort on practicing shots with my 6i down. Those are the money shots....160-100 low irons work. I still need to put in more work with my new sand wedge and lob. I am still having lots of issues with the 60* LW. I switched from a Zevo that was money, but the Titleist puts crazy spin, provided I hit correctly! Just read lessons on golf.com (golf mag) or golf digest. I also bought a book.."How to hit every shot" or something of the sort, published by Golf Magazine. analyzed wat I sis, and try to improve it. The chanllenge is to keep improving...improving from 146 was innevitable...

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
