hey,
So I am a dental student. In class we make teeth molds on articulating "jaws." We then "powder" the teeth and close the jaws. The teeth then show little spots where they are impacting the teeth of the other arch.

Well my friend had a great idea. How about you powder the face of your club, then hit. You'd be able to see where you impact.

Ok,
this is a great idea. Have any of you tried it? Baby powder? Spray deodorant? Foot powder spray?

That does sound like a pretty good idea.

I just keep the grass on the clubs in a range session. When I've finished with the particular club I clean it. That's when I get a good idea of where impact was. Same with on the course. I try and keep my clubs as clean as can be. So I always know where I've hit a ball.

you don't want to powder the face of the club....the impact would cause the powder everywhere to disperse...instead, chalk the ball on the side that the club will make impact and you'll get a clean mark on your club. you could also use some sort of water soluble ink marker as long as its not permanent. other option is just to get some impact tape

in my bag:

Impact tape would work way better and be a hell of allot cleaner besides the fact that that is what it was made for.

Driver - SQ SUMO2 9.5 stiff
3 Wood - SQ SUMO2 15* stiff
Hybrid SQ SUMO2 20* stiff
Irons - CCi steel stiff
Wedge - 56*Wedge - Knight 60*Putter - ITraxBall - platinum+Black but soon to be switching to pr0v1 SG 2.5

Dry Erase markers on the ball would work, too . . . nothing permanent.

When I am playing a round and want to check my ball contact with the driver or irons I simple position the ball mark usually made with a sharpie pen facing the face of the club. This will leave a mark on the club face and you can see where you are making contact and make any adjustments.

Hi,

That is a great idea, and yes it has been done.

There is a guy giving golf tuition on The PGAtour website that suggests it (using foot powder spray) actually.

I am a teaching pro in Australia and I will definitely use this technique.

While impact tape is good it can be expensive and can't cope with hot temperature.

Good thinking! :)

Cheers

Dom

Dr. Scholl's odor-x foot spray works great and is cheap,  a can is about $3 at Walmart and will last a long time.  The ball leaves a very nice contact mark and it cleans off with just a quick wipe of a towel.
