Im struggling what ball to use, I cant afford premium golf balls all the time so im looking for a $30 (£20 to me) golf ball that gives a lot of spin but goes a good distance aswell.

I play Srixon Z-Star X if im playing a premium ball or a Bridgestone e6+ or Srixon AD333 usually

I'd reccomend the Callaway HX Hot bite. It's the most spin for the money, and it's plenty long too.

But it's probably the least durable ball out there.

Exactly what I was about to suggest. Both are excellent. Used them quite a lot and plan to carry on doing so, particularly over the Autumn/Winter/Spring periods.

This one shreds really badly but it does spin.

TopFlite Gamer or Bridgestone e5+. The Gamer is a good 3-piece ball at $19.99 doz. Good spin.

The e5+ is a 2-piece ball with a urethane cover, spins more, $26.95 doz.

I prefer the Gamer.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

I'd think that you have a pretty good economic solution which is the AD333, but for around $25, try the Tri-speed. I have recently switched, and form my game they are great. Reduced the spin of the driver, and plenty of spin on the wedges. This is a 3-peice ball.

You may also try the Srizon Z-URS...these are selling for $25 at Golf Galalxy State's side, but you may find a similar price over the pond. I hear that these are pretty much the Z-Star, but the previous model.

I hope this helps!
It's the indian, not the arrow! But it sure is nice to have good arrows!!!!!

I like a softer ball myself. Noticed in the recent "Hot Balls" list in Golf Digest, some balls got rave reviews. Below are some that may interest you and they are "value" balls...

Top Flite Gamer
Srixon Soft Feel
Pinnacle "Feel"

In the US, these are $20/dozen balls. Saw them on The Golf Warehouse and Edwin Watts websites.

A sidenote, I have played some Precept Laddie X balls and love them. Got them on Amazon for $17.99 (for TWO dozen). Awesome balls in my opinion.

The bridgestone tour B330 is on sale right now at onlinegolf.co.uk for £20. I would stock up on those.

TopFlite Gamer or Bridgestone e5+. The Gamer is a good 3-piece ball at $19.99 doz. Good spin.

When I first read you post I my instant response was these two balls. They came immediately to mind. Do not make the mistake that many make and discard the E5+ without trying it. Just because it's a 2 pc design, I've had a couple of buddies wave it off....only to find out later that this ball is awesome. It spins like crazy and has higher than normal trajectory....distance is above what I normally average. This was the ball that I locked in on and played for most of this past year.

The Gamer.....what can I say....other than justice is served. This level of performance coming from $20 / dz balls.....thank you Top Flite / Callaway or the little Elves who craft these beauties. Everything I found in the E5+ were found in these balls. The main difference being that the trajectories for me were lower with the Gamer than my ave.....well lower than the E5+. I was playing a much lower flighted set of sticks (driver through irons) when I tried a couple dozen of these Gamers. I've replaced my clubs and am hitting much higher shots with 1/2 club more distance now. I really need to try these balls again. I saw a recent listing on ebay for 6 dozen new Gamers go with free shipping for like $75. Thats well less than what I paid for 2 dozen ProV1s in the store. I'm most definitely going to give these balls another run.

Yes. I cashed in some gift certs I had and picked up 3 dozen of these about 6 weeks ago. Normally don't jump into things this quickly w/o more playing time.....the guy at the store made me a great deal on them and they fit my profile. I tried putting some in the store....felt great. A ball must pass the putting test or I will not game it. The Vapor clicks off the face nicely...good feedback.

Distance on these balls has been really good. In fact I'd say it is above what I normally average. I was somewhat concerned prior to buying due to the Nike ONE reputation of being a bit shorter. The salesman in the store was right....these Vapors are long. Trajectories are elevated a bit, too. This is not an ultra-high spinning ball, but I've had zero objections to it checking up. Short work around the greens is good. It is a very durable ball, too. Bottom line is that once my 3 dozen are consumed....I would buy this ball again....even at the full price of $30 / dz. Another ball I'll game without hesitation is what I consider my budget ball. It's the Noodle Long & Soft....not to be confused with the MAXFLI Noodle. They both come in red, white and blue packaging...so it can be confusing. The ball I like doesn't have the Maxfli name anywhere on the package. I'm not sure what type of copyright / ownership /etc issues are at work here....only that for less than $15 / dz this ball rocks. It checks for me very swiftly....no complaints here. Distance is outstanding and the trajectories are higher than my average. Every so often they will have them in our pro shop in a grab bin next to the cash register....for like $4.00 for 4 balls......I can't recomend this ball highly enough. I keep a sleeve in my bag for two reasons: loaner balls in the case that someone I'm playing with needs a ball and for my own use occasionally on the rounds where things just have gone crazy and I need to get back on track....don't want to game the $$$ balls....just pull one of these out. I don't fret if an errant shot results in a lost / wet ball.

Good post.

I need to try the Gamer cuz everyone says good things about it about rave about the price. The same thing goes for the Bridgestone E5+. Which do you think is more durable? I have been switching back between the Callaway HX Hot Bite and the TaylorMade Burner TP LDP. I know the HX Hot Bite is prolly the least durable ball out there but I like the spin and feel. As far as the TM Burner, I have only used it one round and still need to use it more. I do like the low ball flight it gives tho. What are ur opinions on these 2 balls?

Good post.

Durability between the E5+ and the Gamer?.......I'd have to say the E5+ seemed to do a bit better in this category. I found myself picking "hanging chads" off the cover on the Gamer sometimes.

Have only gamed a dozen HX Hot Bites about a year ago. I was impressed with the ball and would like to play them again sometime....have to watch the sales. Never gamed the any of the current Taylor Made balls other than the Burner....I wasn't really impressed with this one.

Try both the E5+ and the gamer. The Gamer will not disappoint.
