On long putts i just have a much smother stroke then on a put of 3 feet or less.. i just do not no why. I feel like when taking such a short putt im taking the puttter back on a zig zag cant get it straight any ideas ?

Considering new Woods what you think ?

Have someone watch your putting stroke and see if you are swinging the putter with your hands or your shoulders?

you should grip the leading hand with the putter grip down your life line and not in your fingers. The putter shaft should be a straight line down your leading arm without a bend also. This will help keep your putter and your arms connected as one.

This video talks about what muscle are used to bring the putter back and fowards.

Take a very short backswing and follow through long towards the hole on short putts.

For me at least, when I start struggling on the short ones its because my tempo is off. I tend to jerk it back too fast, which then makes it go back too far and I end up decelerating through the ball to try and compensate. For me to fix this I try to concentrate on making a short backstroke, with a really slow/smooth takeaway, then just accelerate through the ball.

Which of the two following is most used and adviced?

1: Short backswing and using force to increase speed of the clubhead through the ball. Different force and speed for different distances.
2: Longer backswing and let the weight of the clubhead control through the ball. Different length for different distances.

Its simple practice putting everyday at home on your carpet and see your putting improve. The more time you put in the faster your results.

      Is This Club Blatantly Sandbagging?

      Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.

      I would not do anything until I met with an instructor and got your swing looked at. There are some obvious better club options out there though. Spend 50 bucks on a lesson, practice and start piecing together a bag that works for you. Enjoy the journey.
