Being hit with a golf ball. doesn't come across your mind too often does it? But, once in a blue moon someone has a shank, a big slice, a big hook, a low flyer, that finds its target. A human target that is.

Oh take example today. 8:30 am shotgun, two man best ball tournament held by a company I used to work for during summer. My dad works there so he goes, and brings me of course. Well, we had an ok, not great, but ok day. We ended up with a 77, and I won the long drive contest with a measly 285 yards.

Hole 6. We all hit our tee shots (went off as a foursome). The other group was about 50 yards behind us, but It was around a 40-45 degree angle from where they were hitting to the cartpath on top of a hill, which was near where my 300 yard drive landed. I stopped the cart and was looking through the little goodie bag they gave us before we went off. It all happened pretty fast. I heard someone hit behind us, then I heard my dad who was sitting next to me yell "LOOK OUT." but I had no time. *SMACK*. Here comes the pain. The ball hit me in the cheek, which was lucky I guess because it could have hit me in the eye or the jaw. I still feel a sting as I'm writing this. Its swelled up pretty good and we've been icing it for a while now. It looks like I took a huge bite into a hamburger, and put it over to one side of my mouth, and my cheek was bulging.

Well, long story short. Has this, or something similar, happened to anybody else?

Damn, that sucks. Well I guess you already know this but you should have been paying attention. I know, I know hindsight is 20/20. Anyway, about 4 years ago I was sitting in the cart waiting for my buddy to come back to the cart after he left his wedge on the side of the green. As soon as he sat down.....BOOM! an errant shot right into my chest. It definitely knocked the wind out of me and nobody came over to claim their ball. Then again, I guess if I saw my ball nail somebody, I wouldn't claim it either.

My brother works at a golf course down the road, and he sometimes works the range. He can hear the people saying things like "Ima hit him! watch!" And this is kind of a problem considering that the cart doesn't have a cage on it.

His boss told him to take a club out there while your picking, and hit some back if they hit at you. I have no problem if u hit them, since they were trying to hit you.

I love that course.

Saw the photos of this one.....

So, a guy took his "Trophy Wife" out for a round of golf. They get paired with a real hacker. This guy can not hit a straight ball at all. You would figure that after a couple holes of watching this the couple would be aware of his turn and possible flight paths. Well no.......

Hacker was in the rough, "TW" was maybe 30yrds ahead on the same side. Hacker is doing his practice shots while "TW" heads towards he ball. Hacker tells "TW" that she might want to move out of the way, and she said she's fine......

One nice ting followed by a meaty THWAP! Hacker hits "TW" square in the nose! The damage was nasty.

I was playing with a friend last year in the spring. It was real early in the season, so it was a practice round for both of us and we weren't concerned about keeping score, we were just happy to be out of the house. Well, I fountain my first tee shot about 40 yards. My friend is still taking a few practice swings, so I run out and get it. Then I go off to the side of the course so he can tee off. I'm at about a 45 degree angle to his right... then he smacks his drive off the toe and a line drive goes straight at me and hits my upper inner thigh about an inch lower than my crotch. I felt that bruise for two months.

I learned an important lesson that day: don't be stupid.

Funny that I saw this thread today. Just today, I was standing on the green while my friend hit a bunker shot, and sure enough he completely skulled it right into my arm. Probably about a foot from nailing me square in face. I think I could have dodged it, but my other friend (apparently smarter than me) was already using me as a human shield and restricting my mobility.

The guy who skulled it was having a terrible round, and it actually pleased him to no end that he nailed me with a shot.

I got a couple...

My aunt's sister used to play with this couple, almost every weekend. The wife was, a previously stated, a trophy wife. Of course, she was teeing off the reds, and her husband from the blacks. These fols were/are good players, in the low 90's high 80's, so the wife walked up, and hid behind a large tree. As soon as she heard the "ping" of the driver hitting the ball, she took her face outside of the cover of the tree, samked her in the jaw, broke it, and nearly ever tooth on the right side of her mouth. She had 3 reconstructive surgeries thereafter. (So you were pretty lucky to not loose any teeth!!!)

My second not as interesting....my second outing ever, I was having a hard time doing anything right (as you can imagine). Cought a very tough lie, downhill, on probably the tallest hill in South Florida (about 10 feet tall ) I skulled the living daylights of that ball....hit what seemed to be line drive low flyer to the green (where the rest of the foursome were). Needless to say, the ball took a hard right about 5 yards from the green, a friend of mine had to hop over the ball. Another friend saw what was happening and told him to move, I would have taken out hit ankle for sure...the ball stopped another 45 yards away from the green!!!!

and lastly....I was playing acouple of weeks ago a pretty good pace with our foursome, I think we were about 7 minutes ahead of schedule according to the GPS unit in the car. We were I think the 8th hole, standing on the fringe of the green, waiting for one of our guys to put, all of us were on the green, flag was out. All of a sudden I hear thump, and a ball rolls into the green, about 3 feet from the hole. The divot was about 6 inches to left of me. The guys behind were a twosome, and were trying to push ahead. But instead of asking to play through, decided to throw a ball outr way. I picked up the ball, Prov1, and pocketed it. At the tee box of the 9th hole, the guys comes screaming at us about his ball, I told him if did that again, he would get both balls back, as soon as I teed of aiming for his gut (explitives deleted)! Needless to say he backed off, and I kept his Prov1. Which went into the drink on the 10th...not on purpose

It's the indian, not the arrow! But it sure is nice to have good arrows!!!!!

I've done something just as bad, not with a golf ball, but...
Different teams from different sports got together when I was in university to make a mixed charity baseball tournament. The money was going to the local IWK, and since we were all athletes, we all wanted to play baseball instead of softball.

Now, im a huge, strong guy, and im in excellent shape. I played first base and batted cleanup all through highschool. I could crush a ball and I was pretty proud of that.

I brought in three runs with a fast pitch dead and center in the third inning, and was even more confident in the fifth. Stepped up to the plate, pitch comes on the inside, I stepped back and took a big bite out of it.

It was hard and fast, AND COMPLETELY TO THE LEFT. Squeeks over the fence and hits a 5yo kid square in the jaw. Broke his jaw, broke teeth. I've never felt so horrible about anything in my life. I visited him in the hospital every day and brought him hockey jerseys signed from our whole hockey team.

Oddly enough, that kid is now is now 12, and he's going to be my brother in law. I met her at the hospital that day (she was playing with the varsity soccer teams baseball team, which is why the kid was there), started dating a couple of weeks later.

And he's a hell of a hockey player, but he still wont play baseball to this day. Hahaha.

Ouch! Nice end to the tale though! A mate of mine copped a 3-wood smack in the cheekbone from about 50 yards (it was a serious block!) a number of years ago. Smashed his cheekbone and knocked him cold for ~5 minutes. He was OK after a couple of days but he was lucky given how close he was to where it was hit from.

One of my good friends was hit last year by a wayward 3 wood shot from an opposite. It hit him right next to his left eye and crushed his eye socket. He had to have reconstructive surgery and almost lost the vision in his eye (which would have cost him his career in Coast Guard aviation.... gotta have vision correctable to 20-20).

His face still looks a little funky almost a year later. Being hit by a ball is no joke!

I'd like to wrap my 9-iron around people that don't yell FORE on an errant shot.

I scream FORE at the top of my lungs whenever I hit an errant tee shot. I've never been hit with a golf ball but I don't need to be hit to know that it will hurt. If the guy on the previous hole's green gets mad because you yelled when he was putting for birdie so be it, another person's safety is far more important.

I had a ball fly about 6 ft. from my head a couple weeks ago, it took all I had not to go over there and rip the guy's ass that happened to be 20 years older than me(mid 40's or so). Not for hitting the errant shot(we've all done it), but for not yelling FORE! like he should have. I looked over at him and glared for about 10 seconds and all he did was wave(like "Hi").

I don't care if somebody yells fore and their ball misses me by 50 yards, I'd much rather have that happen once a round then have some douche miss my head by a few yards and not even offer any attempt at an apology.

Ive never hit anybody but the scariest was a par 4 dogleg right. THE adjacent holes cart path is part of the dogleg and 30 feet above the teebox. Its a 330 par 4 and I have driven it once, there is no danger near green so I drive the dogleg everytime now. My SS is 115-125 and when this ball took off it followed the cart path in a low trajectory, a sizzling boreing type drive into the horizon of this hill where the cart path meets the horizon. It took only a split second or two then we saw the 1st cart coming over the hill. (my dad & I) it was about halfway to the crest of the cart path when the 1st cart descended into safety, then the second cart's roof appeared and and crested the hill at the exact same time the ball go there. This is where it gets WIERD. TWO MENNONITE GOLFERS with straw hats were playing in this foursome. ALL we could see is the heads of two amish folk in the cart and the ball wizzed between their heads through the front window and out the back(the shield was down upfront) The ball didnt hit a single thing! We rushed to the group and asked them if they were ok, and the 2 in front said they saw the ball coming in hot and got out of the way. The 2 behind had no idea a ball wizzed by them between their ears. If I had killed one of them, it would have made national news, AMISH man killed by amateur golfer. First a mennonite playing golf,,,whoda thunk that? then one getting smoked by a wilson tx4 tour pro. Sceered the crap out of me.
